Today, the governor visited the York County Food Banks East York Emergency Food Hub, which provides groceries to approximately 2,000 families each Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

I want to thank all of the volunteers, farmers, food producers, non-profits and businesses that are donating and supporting food banks across the state.
The York County Food Bank has provided 2.4 million meals and volunteers donated more than 4,000 hours at drive-thru, walk-thru and pop-up distribution at locations throughout the county since the COVID-19 pandemic started.
We are very thankful that Governor Wolf has chosen to take time out of his busy schedule to visit the York County Food Bank and see firsthand our operations, said Jennifer Brillhart, President & CEO, York County Food Bank. Our staff and volunteers have been working hard to meet the increased demand for food due to the COVID-19 pandemic and we are incredibly grateful for the support of Governor Wolf and the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture for providing us with the resources to meet the critical need.

What It’s Like To Volunteer At A Food Bank
Every volunteer experience is a little different. Here are some things you might do as a volunteer:
- Sort and pack food: You can keep the shelves stocked by assembling food boxes for distribution.
- Assist at mobile pantries, drive-thru pantries, and no-contact distributions: Help your neighbors feed their families.
- Deliver meals: With many communities sheltering in place, you can help ensure our most vulnerable neighbors have the food they need while staying safe.
- Glean and garden: Volunteers collect food left in the fields after harvest or help tend the food bank or food pantry’s community garden.
- Volunteer from home: Some food banks have moved their volunteer shifts online and are asking volunteers to help fundraise or spread awareness.
Your safety is a top priority. The Feeding America network follows all Center for Disease Control and local guidelines for sanitation, hygiene, and social distancing to ensure staff and volunteers are safe. This may include masks, additional handwashing stations, gloves, reduced group sizes, and other safety precautions.

Families Others Get A Chance To Give Back At York County Food Bank
During a season of giving, Central York Middle School student Kendall Payne wanted to give back to the community in some small way.
I just wanted to come help out the families who couldnt get food, Kendall said. I feel pretty good about it. I like helping out people.
The 14-year-old was among the volunteers, young and old, putting together Give-A-Meal holiday meal boxes Saturday at the York County Food Bank.
The food bank suspended its age requirement for volunteering for one day to allow families with younger children get the chance to volunteer.
Kelly Greer, of Dover, brought her two oldest children, Bennett, 7, and Adley, 6, to help assemble some of the 3,000 boxes the York County Food Bank intends to distribute through area school districts during the holiday season.
Greer, who homeschools her children, was looking for a service project they could do for Christmas as part of their schooling.
We Googled Volunteering in York County and this came up as our first option, Greer said. So, I reached out and asked if they had anything kids could do. And they just happened to have a family day and so, here we are.
York City School District Superintendent Andrea Berry also wanted to give back to an organization that has given so much to the students in her district.
