One critical step in helping to make Utah a no-kill state is providing residents with resources so they can avoid relinquishing their pets to shelters. To help, we opened a pet food pantry at the Best Friends Lifesaving Center in Salt Lake City.
The pet food pantry provides pet food to the pets of low-income residents and community cat caregivers. Please note that we rely on donations to fill orders, which means our food levels vary. If youre like me youve no doubt had some flops when it comes to choosing a food that your pet likes. So, what do you do when youve spent a fortune on a bag of food and Fluffy or Fido has turned their nose up at it? It cost too much to just throw it away and most places wont accept open bags.
I recently volunteered a few hours at the Hope 7 Food Pantry in Troy. I was surprised by two things. One, they didnt have a whole lot of gluten free options for someone that has Celiac Disease or a gluten intolerance like I do. You can read about that here. Second, they provide pet food for their families in need.
Hope 7 Food Pantry will GLADLY take your opened packages of pet food.
Any open bags they receive are repackaged into smaller bags enough to last a week. They then distribute the food to the families as its needed.
They say more people have cats than dogs.

Registering For Charlies Pet Food Bank
Please register in person to pick up pet food or supplies . This helps us ensure pet food is available for everyone.
To register, we ask for:
If youre not able to provide one of these documents, please speak with a volunteer.
You can register at Charlies pet food bank on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Once registered you can visit Charlies weekly to receive pet food, litter, and other supplies. Registered members may also request specific items. This registration is for the pet food bank.
Where Do Dogs Trust Donations Go
The money is used to cover the costs of running the Rehoming Centre, costs such as heating the kennels and washing the dogs’ bedding. The money also goes towards food for the dogs, training and medical care – all with the ultimate goal of finding each dog a loving home. Why can’t all the dogs be visited?

Donate Wish List Items
Meal time at PAWS is something like the army – LARGE amounts of food passed out to hungry troops! As you can imagine, our food bill is one of our biggest expenses of our daily operating budget. You can help stretch our budget by donating food to feed all our dogs and cats along with other items from our wish list.
We know some of these items aren’t very glamorous, but every item we receive means more money we have to spend on things like dentals, x-rays, surgeries, and other medical care.
If you’d like to donate food , we are open from 12:00pm to 4:00 pm every day. If you’d like to come during other hours, please call ahead at 750-9572. Tax deduction receipts are available for your donation upon request.

Charlies Fund Free Or Low
We provide support for veterinary treatment and life-saving surgeries, for people who qualify, thanks to our donors. Through Charlies Fund we cover all or, on occasion, most of the cost for veterinary services for people who:
- Live in supporting housing or a single room occupancy residence
- Are homeless and living in B.C.
- Require follow-up treatment recommended by our volunteer veterinarians at Charlies free vet clinic
- Have been recognized by one of our animal protection officers as someone who is experiencing hardship and requires financial assistance to provide medical care for your pet
At this time, we are only accepting the following items:
- Food: Unopened wet & dry food for cats and dogs
- Please note that we are unable to accept prescription diets at this time.
These items can be dropped off to the bin outside of our Intake Lobby between 9 a.m. 6 p.m. daily

Spca’s Community Pet Food Pantry
Here at SPCA, we do our best to care for all animals those who come into our care, those on the streets, and those living in a family home.
You may have seen our SPCA Community Pet Food Pantry at various supermarkets across New Zealand. At SPCA we are very lucky to have Purina provide us with nutritious food for cats and dogs in our care. This is extremely valuable as it means we never have to worry about the thousands of animals who come through our doors going hungry.
However, not everyone in New Zealand is as lucky. This is why we have set up SPCA Community Pet Food Pantry in local supermarkets. When animal owners are going through financially difficult times, this generously donated food provides emergency assistance for their pets.
SPCA Inspectors use SPCA Community Pet Food Pantry donations for their work in the community, such as responding to a request for help from a struggling animal owner.
Often these periods of hardship are short-term. In these cases, the best thing for an animal is to leave them in their loving home. Taking them away can cause unnecessary stress, and impact on the animals wellbeing. Our Inspectors will, of course, intervene when an animal is at risk but if their owners just need a helping hand when theyre having a tough week then that is what well do. This food helps tide them over until they can get back on their feet. We also share this food with other rescue organisations so that all pets have a chance.
