Roadrunner Food Bank accepts food donations to feed the hungry during our food banks regular business hours. If you are bringing in a food donation, please enter through our main lobby and we can assist you. Our business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Saturday from 8 am to 2 pm. We no longer will have a bin outside the facility to collect food donations. We ask the community to refrain from leaving food donations at our front entries as it is attracting area pets and wildlife who are consuming the food and leaving quite a mess.

Your donations of food can be the reason a neighbor in need does not have to choose between keeping a roof over their familys head or putting a healthy meal on the table.
To help make donating as simple and convenient as possible, Second Harvest Food Bank partners with Goodwill Industries, which has designated locations across our service region to serve as collection points for donations of food from community members like you. You can also drop off your donations at Second Harvest Food Banks headquarters at 3655 Reed Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27107. We receive donations Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
When you arrive, please check in at the front office you must wear a mask and maintain appropriate social distance while at our facilities. Our Guest Services staff will alert our Operations team that you are on your way to the back of our warehouse to drop off your food donation. An Operations team member will assist you in unloading your vehicle and can also provide you with a receipt if one is needed.

While we appreciate the support we received from food drives over the years, weve had issues with the varying levels of food quality through third-party food drives. On average, up to 30% of the food we receive ends up being SPOILED, DAMAGED, or UNSAFE to eat.

Foster told TODAY that in her experience as a smaller pantry, meat and fresh vegetables are highly coveted food items.
A lot of the donation boxes have canned meat and cooked meat, like meatballs and chicken patties, to serve unhoused families, or folks without kitchens, she explained. But fresh meat and vegetables make people with kitchens very happy.
For community grassroots food efforts like hers, Foster advised people to give what no one will get anywhere else.
Pantry items, she said. Salt, sugar, condiments, baking items, spices, herbs, tomato sauce, ketchup, mustard, mayo, Sazón, garlic powder, hot sauce. Every couple of months we did giant pantry giveaways where the community gave us cash, and we just bought all kinds of pantry items. People loved it because they are getting boxes with squash and cooked meatballs, but no cooking oil, no salt. How can you make a dinner your kids will eat without salt?

DONATED FOOD DISTRIBUTING ORGANIZATIONS are not allowed to accept or serve most types of homeprepared foods. However, homemade baked goods that do not need refrigeration to remain safe may be received from DONORS.

The donation of commercially canned, boxed, and otherwise packaged foods is encouraged.
Fresh Produce Donations
Food donations may include fresh produce, including home-grown fruits and vegetables. Fresh produce should be protected from contamination and receive final preparation, such as washing and cutting, in a DONOR KITCHEN or licensed kitchen.
Food Prepared in a DONOR KITCHEN
Except for baked goods , DONATED FOOD DISTRIBUTING ORGANIZATIONS may not accept foods prepared in a home kitchen. Instead, foods for donation should be prepared in either a DONOR KITCHEN or a commercial food establishment, such as a restaurant.
A DONOR KITCHEN is a publicly available kitchen in a faith-based organization, community center, or other site. The DONOR KITCHEN does not need to have a health permit, but must have basic facilities such as adequate handwashing, dishwashing, refrigeration, and cooking equipment. It must have a safe water supply, be protected from weather and animals, and be cleaned before food preparation starts.
