Furry Friends Pet Food Pantry

The Wisconsin Humane Society believes that tight financial times should not break the bonds of love and companionship between people and their companion animals. WHS provides pet food, treats, and kitty litter for individuals who are struggling to provide food for their animals. This program has helped many people keep their animals in homes where they are loved.

Can Dogs Donate Organs

While most organ transplants arenât possible for our four-legged friends, kidney transplants are fairly common, but finding donors can be difficult.

Both dogs and cats can receive a donated kidney, but the procedure is mostly performed on cats because donors and recipients donât have to be related.

Meet The Chuck Waggin Board

These are the people who make it happen!

A subsidiary of PACC911, Chuck Waggin was founded in 2012 by Donna Barker to address the needs of too many people abandoning their pets because they could no longer afford to keep them.

Chuck Waggin is a vital arm of PACC911, providing much needed pet food and pet service referrals to keep animals and the families who love them together.

Donna Barker President/Founder

I love all dogs and cats. I formed Chuck Waggin Pet Food Pantry, a division of PACC911, because I wanted to make a difference in the lives of hungry pets and the families who own them.

I was in the mortgage industry for more than 30 years as a Manager, Regional Manager and Managing Vice President. Pets are a big part of the American family today and some of these families are being torn apart because of financial difficulties. If I can help at least 1 family stay together with their pet, by helping feed that animal through Chuck Waggin Pet Food Pantry, then I have started the process of achieving my goal.

Tina Lopez Vice President

In addition to serving on the board for Chuck Waggin, Tina is PACC911s vice president and current President for the Association of Fundraising Professionals . She built a career in the nonprofit sector working for the Arizona Humane Society,Arizona Animal Welfare League,The Arizona Pet Project , Save the Family Foundation,Child Crisis Arizona and Animal Outlook .

Can You Start Your Own Food Bank For Pets

If you’re struggling to find a local food bank for pets, another alternative is to start your own. It will take time and planning, but it’s not impossible. Spread the word on social media or in your local area, then start collecting donations and see if there are any pet owners in need of supplies.

If you’re not sure how to go about creating your own food bank, it’s always worth speaking to your local council for additional support.

Are Canned Food Donations Tax Deductible

The short answer is yes. However, there are some rules you must follow to write off the value of your canned food donation on your tax return. The first thing youll want to confirm is that the place youre donating to is a tax-exempt organization. The IRS has a list of organizations on its website, which you can access using the Exempt Organization Search Tool.

You should be aware that not all tax-exempt non-profits will appear on the list. For example, any non-profit that is already tax-exempt will have an application on file. This includes churches, mosques, synagogues, and government agencies.

Organization And Cleaning Supplies

As you can imagine, there are plenty of potty accidents to clean up around the shelter, as well as everyday messes that happen when you have a lot of animals together in one place.

Paper towels, garbage bags, rubber gloves, spray bottles, storage bins, and Ziplock bags are among the items that help animal shelters stay clean and organized.

Some shelters will also take rolls of newspaper, so long as any glossy ads are removed for safety.

Together Lets Feed Animals

The Humane Society of Pinellas manages and maintains a Pet Food Pantry for residents of Pinellas County when they need a little help providing food for their pets. Our pantry is a source of sustenance for pets on a short-term, emergency basis as well as long-term help to individuals who may be unemployed, living with a disability, or receiving government assistance. To obtain pet food from our pantry, we ask pet owners to download our Pet Food Pantry Client Profile Form and bring it and a copy of their drivers license to our Pet Food Pantry POD , located in our parking lot. Copies of the form are also available onsite for people who may not have access to a printer. We understand that pet owners may face financial hardships at any time so we do not require documentation of need for the first three months while receiving food from our Pet Food Pantry. After three months, we will require proof of unemployment, disability or government assistance. While we strive to provide pet food and certain supplies, our pantry is stocked through the generosity of our donors so we are unable to guarantee the availability of food. Please call 727-797-7722 ext. 227 for inquiries of pet food.

How Charlies Helps Pets And People

The human-animal bond is powerful. Studies show that having a pet helps peoples mental and physical health. Pets give us constant, unconditional love. Many people tell us that their pets have saved their lives.

As part of the Downtown Eastside, we have become a resource for many pet guardians and community support workers by providing supplies and preventative care. To help pet guardians we take a harm reduction approach by showing respect for the person and building relationships. Charlies is a volunteer-operated program and all pet food and supplies are donated. A group of dedicated BC SPCA volunteers allows us to help more animals and maintain a presence in the community.

We strive to provide a supportive, respectful and friendly environment. We want Charlies to be a safe place for visitors, members, volunteers and animals.

Helping Gloria Feed Her Five Pets For The Month

Twin Cities resident, Gloria, loves to sit in her front yard, basking in the sun with her three little poodles and two senior cats. As a single mom who took care of her five children on her own after a devastating divorce, the long-time pet lover worked multiple jobs, struggling to make ends meet for years. Her children have since grown up, but Gloria still faces financial challenges.

“I live on $700 a month I get from social security. I have to be really careful with every penny that comes my way,” says Gloria. “But I’m not embarrassed about my situation. I am a survivor and proud that I don’t waste a thing. I know how to stretch a dollar.”

Gloria has three poodles and two cats . The five animals are the highlight of her life. “They make my life so rewarding and so much better. I don’t know what I would do without them, especially since I live alone.”

Every month Gloria visits her local food shelf. Her visits help supplement her food pantry. Occasionally the food shelf has pet food, but not always. “Animal food is so expensive. I almost think it’s more expensive then human food. When they don’t have pet food, I just try to find people food that I can feed them.”

The long-time animal lover was surprised to see her food shelf was stocked with so much cat and dog food recently. She learned it was thanks to Animal Humane Society and GreaterGood.org‘s Rescue Bank.

Bedding material is very needed in shelter settings, and shelter dogs go through this stuff pretty fast. Accidents, chewing, and general use make these items hard to keep in stock.

Shelters tend to accept sheets, blankets, and towels regardless of whether they are new or used, so long as they are clean and arent completely falling apart, though not all do. Ask your local shelter if they accept these items.
