Support For The People Of Ukraine
The catastrophic war in Ukraine is forcing many men, women, and children into hunger. Hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians are traveling for days without food. Midwest Food Bank needs your help to provide food assistance for Ukraine families. MFB is partnering with other nonprofit organizations to donate our nutritious meals, Tender Mercies to the people of Ukraine. Convoy of Hope provided transportation for the first shipment of nearly 240,000 servings of Tender Mercies to the countries helping Ukrainian refugees. The cost to Midwest Food Bank to supply Tender Mercies for this effort is $60,000. Other MFB nonprofit partners have included: Children’s Hunger Fund, International Christian Enterprise, Inc.,Basic Life Support,Mount Church, and The Elpis Foundation in Romania. MFB is working with Convoy of Hope to ship another load in June.
An MFB board member from Texas utilized the strength of three other nonprofits combined with MFB to get a shipment of Tender Mercies to Romania. Those meals will be distributed in late May/early June. Story here.
“Convoy of Hope is incredibly blessed by the partnership and generosity of Midwest Food Bank,” says Ethan Forhetz, Convoy of Hope National Spokesman. “Their shipment of Tender Mercies meals is headed to Romania where Convoy of Hope will distribute it to Ukrainian refugees fleeing the violence in their homeland.”

Join A Local Campaign Group
There are a number of online community groups that have launched across the UK. Many are run by Ukranian nationals who want to educate people on the history of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. And some have additionally organised rallies in cities like London and Sheffield for people to join and protest against the invasion. Suggested groups to follow include Ukraine Solidarity Campaign and Euromaidan London .
There’s also the global group UkraineNow which you can sign up to as a member for free. They are helping with all things food, medical, evacuation and getting cash to those in need on the ground. You can also sign up to host a Ukranian who has fled the country and is seeking shelter.

Central Beds Ukraine Appeal Bedfordshire
Spearheaded by Katarzyna Southin and Emily Roberts. People in central Bedfordshire villages have been donating much needed items to Ukrainian refugees thanks to their Central Beds Ukraine Appeal. However though physical donations ended on April 1, they’re still making trips with supplies and are now seeking financial donations via their GoFundMe page to help the effort.
“We have teamed up with local cadets at Krakow Central Station to provide food, snacks and drinks to families passing through from przemysl Station before we head to the orphanages and support them for the next few days,” Emily explained on the page.
“We are hiring a minibus and will buy all the essentials from local supermarkets. The more money we receive, the more we can buy for those in need so every penny is vital! Please continue donating to our GoFundMe page and we will ensure all your money is spent in the best possible way.”

Donations Of Goods Not Advised

Bahen said giving food, clothing or other physical goods is not helpful.
While these donations are made with the best intentions, they won’t help relief efforts, she said.
“Europe is enormously wealthy and they have clothes, and they have food, and they have water, and they have medical supplies,” said Bahen.
She said sending goods to the region can also cause additional logistical headaches, and take away from the work that needs to be done.

Gathering Food For Ukraine To Help Those In Need
The humanitarian crisis is tearing Ukraine apart. Aggravated by the Russian invasion, the hunger problem leaves millions of Ukrainians â many of whom are children â malnourished and cut off from access to basic necessities. With an unrelenting focus on helping those in need, Ukrainian Food Foundation is out to gather and distribute food help for Ukraine, including across the most war-affected regions. We are here to take action to save lives!
Ukrainian Food Foundation is a non-profit food bank in Ukraine that has gathered and distributed millions of meals, tons of personal hygiene products and plenty of medicines since its inception. But now, as Ukraine is being ravaged by the full-scale war, no effort is great enough.
We are dedicated to doing everything we can to get MORE humanitarian aid to help MORE families and end the hunger problem in MORE Ukrainian cities and villages. By collecting surplus food, our staff and volunteers contribute to keeping starvation in check while ensuring more people are provided with nutritious meals. Whether they are forcibly displaced or struggle to get food in hotspots, our commitment to helping is equally strong for everyone in Ukraine.

However, we will be providing medical supplies as part of our response, and Red Cross societies in neighbouring countries are also sending medical equipment.

Ukranian Red Cross Doctors Without Borders

While it is getting more difficult to get money into Ukraine, Bahen said, there are organizations still on the ground in the country that need support.
One of them is the Ukrainian Red Cross.
Bahen cautions that giving money to the Canadian Red Cross may not have as immediate an impact.
“We hope the other national Red Crosses transferred that money, but that is not known,” she said.
“You can remove all of that uncertainty, and you can give directly to the Ukrainian Red Cross.”
Since the Ukrainian Red Cross is not a registered charity in Canada, donations are not eligible for a tax deduction, but those donations will be used inside Ukraine.
Another option for people to give is Doctors Without Borders, which still operates in Ukraine.
