Aims Community College Gives Back To The Community With A 50th Anniversary Give Back Day At Weld Food Bank
Aims Community College employees volunteered at the Weld Food Bank on Friday, November 17 in honor of the College’s 50th anniversary.
Our purpose is to build a stronger community, and I cant think of a better way to celebrate our 50th year than by giving back at the Weld Food Bank, said Aims CEO/President Dr. Leah L. Bornstein. This was a great opportunity before the Thanksgiving holiday to show our appreciation for the community who has supported us the past 50 years.
The event was organized through the Aims Staff Association, an internal committee for staff members of Aims, that encourages employees to contribute to the goals, mission and vision of the college. Arty the Aardvark, Aims mascot, joined the 16 employees who volunteered their time. Aims employees have 30 hours of leave available to them each year that they can use for local and community volunteer activities as part of their benefits.
Weston Edmunds, communications manager at the Weld Food Bank said, Volunteering is very important to the success of Weld Food Bank. We cannot effectively address the issue of hunger in Weld County without community members giving of their time. That is why we are so appreciative of partnerships like the one we have with Aims Community College. For 50 years they have served the community, and we were honored they celebrated that milestone by volunteering at our warehouse.
Food Bank For Larimer County

We went FULL GOBBLE
Thank you to all who donated, volunteered, and helped spread awareness about this year’s Tour de Turkey. We are extraordinarily grateful for our community. Happy Thanksgiving!
WAYS TO HELP
The Food Bank ensures that those in our community who are hungry have convenient access to free, healthy and nutritious food.
We’re feeding Larimer County with three distinct programs:
For tens of thousands of households facing tough choices to make ends meet, cutting back on food is often the solution. But it comes at a steep price. For children, hunger impacts the ability to learn. For adults, the ability to work. For seniors, the ability to manage illness and maintain health.

Its National Volunteer Month We Will Be At The Weld Food Bank This Week
April is National Volunteer Month! A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to join my co-workers at Townsquare Media in volunteering at the Weld Food Bank. It was really cool. Over the past 25 years I have literally volunteered to host or be a part of hundreds of events in Northern Colorado, but this was different!
This was rolling up your sleeves and really doing some work. We busted our backsides. That being said, It was fun. It was a great team building exercise. Our job was to sort food that had been been donated and place it in boxes of like items. We sorted and boxed 3 very large baskets of canned food and 1 large basket of dry Food in about 2 hours. As a group, we felt like we really accomplished something. What an awesome feeling! Our Townsquare Media team is doing it again this week. I can’t wait.
You can volunteer too. If you would like to volunteer at the Weld Food Bank or sign up for an orientation call Sarah Bray, at 970-356-2199 x307.
If you want to something for your community, it doesn’t have to be at the Food Bank. There are hundreds of volunteer opportunities in Northern Colorado. For other volunteer opportunities available in our community, a good place to start is The Colorado Volunteer Center Network.
I snapped a few pics of our volunteer experience at the Weld Food Bank. Check it out.

What We Do
There is a lot more to providing adequate hunger relief to all of Weld County than one might think. As a food bank we acquire, handle and distribute food through our direct service programs and partner agencies. We hold ourselves to a high standard of food safety to ensure that we treat our donations with the utmost care, and also to prevent bringing illness to those we serve. This requires thorough procedures and continual monitoring of ourselves and our agencies.
We cant make all this happen without resources. Our truck fleet is constantly on the road picking up donations from farmers, retailers and other community partners. Members of our staff work diligently with businesses and individuals to convey the importance of financially supporting the food bank. Without the adequate storage space, including our coolers and freezer, we wouldnt be able to store the amount of food we have, especially the fresh produce, dairy, meat and other perishable items. Most importantly, our operations are heavily dependent upon volunteer support in every area. All these pieces work together to make Weld Food Bank what it is.
Who We Are
Mission Statement: To lead and engage our community in the fight against hunger
Weld Food Bank is a 501 non-profit organization which alleviates hunger and poverty by providing food and services to people in need. We are a private non-profit organization and are not a part of county government.
We work to educate the public about the nature of hunger and poverty. We recognize the need for emergency and supplemental food programs and of other non-profit organizations that meet the critical needs of low-income families. When we provide our services we strive to do so with compassion and respect for the dignity of the people seeking food assistance. Last year we provided over 13.9 million pounds of food to the hungry in Weld County.
Weld Food Bank is also a part of Feeding America which is the largest charitable hunger-relief organization in the country addressing the problem of domestic hunger by providing 4 billion meals to hungry people in America each year. This accomplishment is due to their nationwide network of 200 food banks and 60,000 food pantries and meal programs. Feeding America serves all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.
