We cannot do this important work alone!
I enjoy volunteering immenselyit feels like genuinely useful work, and is a nice physical break from my screen-heavy job. Ive also enjoyed the opportunity to learn more about the food distribution system in the USto see what happens to extras/seconds/damaged/other unwanted items from supermarkets/producers, what happens to stuff you give to food drives, what the government does and doesnt do to ensure food security. -Volunteer

The San Antonio Food Bank is a 501 non-profit organization providing millions of pounds of food to more than 500 charitable organizations in Southwest Texas serving those in need. In addition to food distribution, the San Antonio Food Bank provides numerous programs that not only solve the immediate problems of hunger, but help individuals and families gain long-term food security.
The San Antonio Food Bank values the privacy of our donors and does not copy, reproduce, publish, post, distribute, share or sell, the name, personal contact information or description of donors to any outside individual or business. Exceptions are those required by law, requested in grant applications or in connection with bank credit or debit card transactions made with prior knowledge or consent of the donor.
Can I Volunteer At A Food Bank Remotely
One great way to assist your local food bank remotely is tohost a virtual food drive! Unlike a traditional food drive in which youd collect canned food items from your family and friends, during a virtual food drive, youll collect funds for donation to your local food bank.
Virtual food drives are a great way to help out. At Food Bank of Wyoming, we are able to transform every $1 generated from community-driven virtual fundraisers to help distribute enough food for 3 nourishing meals thanks to our multitude of partnerships, robust purchasing power, and bulk pricing. As always, every $1 donated in Wyoming stays in Wyoming.

High Plains Food Bank Asking For Volunteers To Distributing As Much Food To The Texas Panhandle
AMARILLO, Texas – The amount of volunteers have been down for nearly two years. The High Plains Food Bank says an influx of volunteers would help tremendously.
Volunteers do everything from inspecting donations like these to tending in the garden. The High Plains Food Bank says they have yet to see pre-COVID-19 numbers of volunteers.
Its very crucial that we have our volunteers. Our volunteers are basically the backbone and how we get everything done all of our repack how we do our salvage operations are basically the backbone of our entire operations, says Dennis Howard, Product Recovery Coordinator, High Plains Food Bank.
The food bank says having a holiday season with less covid cases caused a lack in volunteers.
But as it stands right now, we have for these next couple months, January into February, we really dont have many scheduled groups on the calendar to even come in, says Zack Wilson, Executive Director, High Plains Food Bank.
After seeing a busy December in terms of donations, the food bank says they need all the help they can get.
So, the worst case scenario is, were not distributing as much food to the Texas Panhandle to help folks out in their time of need right now, as we can and it all kind of goes back down to volunteers being a key part of our of our organization, says Wilson.

How Is Foodcycle Different From Food Banks
Food banks are places where people can get food and other essential things for free. They are a bit like supermarkets, but everything is free for people who cant afford to buy it. The food and other items in food banks is donated by other people and organised by a community group or charity.
There are around 2,000 food banks in the UK.
Often, people need a referral in order to use a food bank from an organisation that assesses their level of need. People who want to use a food bank usually need to provide information about their financial circumstances to show they need help.
Health And Safety Precautions
The Food Bank takes steps to ensure the well-being of staff, volunteers and those we serve. In addition to cleaning and sanitizing procedures, volunteer are asked to complete a health survey before each shift. We will continue to monitor and be responsive to public health guidance related to COVID-19 to maintain safety at our facilities.
