Cheers To 40 Years A Ruby Celebration.
The Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank will celebrate its 40th anniversary at its 2017 annual gala, Cheers To 40 Years A Ruby Celebration, which will be held at the nonprofits 90,000 square foot warehouse facility in Miramar on Saturday, April 29.
Twenty-five celebrated local chefs, representing restaurants from across the county, will donate their time and culinary talent for the event. The galas chef committee co-chairs, Chef Sara Polczynski of Seasoned Plates and Chef Jonathan Hale of The Prado at Balboa Park, are leading the team of chefs to help raise vital funds for the Food Banks hunger-relief programs, including the Food 4 Kids Backpack Program which provides weekend backpacks filled with food to elementary school children living in poverty.
We are thrilled to have the participation of our communitys best chefs. We will have fifty tables, and each chef will host two tables that evening serving as a personal chef, preparing a multi-course meal with drink parings, said Chef Sara Polczynski of Seasoned Plates.
Guests will find out who their chef is the night of the event. The guests loved the surprise! I heard so many guests ask each other, Who was your chef? What did you eat? explains Polczynski.
This years gala co-chairs, Jeannie Johnson Bolinger and Cheryl Floros, are excited about their plans for the event and its special significance celebrating the Food Banks 40th anniversary.

The food banks interim CEO, Casey Castillo, said donations are critical to the San Diego Food Bank and our North County Food Bank chapter during this time, since we are continuing to feed record numbers of families facing food insecurity who are still recovering from the financial impacts of the pandemic and suffering from inflation at a 40-year high.
The organization says one in three adults and more than two in five children face food insecurity in San Diego.
As the pandemic continues to impact San Diego, food banks are experiencing increased demand and higher costs to meet the needs of individuals and families, said Rick Bregman, president of Bank of America San Diego.
Our commitment to help strengthen the communities we live in and serve is unwavering, which is why we are investing in the health, safety and well-being of our teammates while also providing funds to help local organizations support our neighbors and fight food insecurity.
