Fort Worth and Tarrant County Texas residents have food banks, soup kitchens and free pantries that operate across the county that they can call for help. They give out supplies including groceries, personal toiletries, snacks for children, hot meals, and bags of free canned or perishable food. Some food pantries near you are located in churches, some in local non-profit organizations, and some in government offices. Find information below, as well as a referral number at the bottom of the page for more locations.
Residents of the area can not only call a food bank or pantry for groceries, perishable or nonperishable items, and free food, but they can also learn about other assistance programs. As there are resources that may be available to them. For example, some of the charity organizations as well as churches may offer clothing or limited financial assistance for bills and rent, in addition to free food.
Many have social workers that can help families apply for food stamps or other government benefits, including WIC vouchers or SNAP food stamps. Food pantries will often provide meals around the holidays, including Thanksgiving and Christmas. There are also . If they do not have aid they can offer themselves, the agencies may very well be able to refer you to other organizations in the Arlington, Fort Worth, and Tarrant County region.

Tarrant Area Food Bank was founded in 1982 by a group of Fort Worth residents concerned about hunger in their community. It is now the primary source of donated food for hunger-relief charities and feeding programs in Tarrant and 12 surrounding counties, serving 1,000,000 meals each week.

After Almost Two Years Of Pandemic Local Food Bank Officials Said Families Are Still In Need Of Food Items

Food drives in North Texas attracting long lines of cars with families looking to ease their financial burdens was a common image during the pandemic. But this year, some food distribution agencies are adopting a new strategy: taking their supplies to smaller-scale distributions directly to neighborhoods.
After almost two years of pandemic, local food bank officials said families are still in need of food items. Both, the North Texas Food Bank and the Tarrant Area Food Bank, reported substantial increases in food deliveries during the last year.
People are suffering. They had never experienced hunger before the pandemic, said Trisha Cunningham, president and CEO of the North Texas Food Bank, during a news conference earlier this month in South Dallas.
Wen Rodriguez is one of those people who has received assistance from the food banks at smaller-scale distributions. Rodríguez, 38, said she didnt depend fully on food distributions during the pandemic, but the food items were handy after she was furloughed for four months last year.
She hasnt returned to work since she got pregnant after being furloughed and now stays at home taking care of her two children due to the high costs of child care.
Thanks to the food drives organized by churches with the help of NTFB, the Dallas resident was able to use her money to cover other expenses.

Catholic Charities food pantries continue to operate with your safety in mind, using drive-through distribution so you can remain in your vehicle while volunteers load your food.

Food Available At Multiple Sites Through December
Multiple organizations across Fort Worth are offering food to help families through the COVID-19 pandemic.
Since March, the Fort Worth ISD has partnered with multiple organizations to share information and organize food distribution events for families.
Curbside Meals-To-Go breakfast and lunch service is available at 28 designated FWISD locations for FWISD virtual learners. Twice weekly on Monday and Thursday mornings, FWISD students participating in virtual learning may pick up a combination of breakfast and lunch meals at any of the 28 designated meal pickup sites. The YMCA of Metropolitan Fort Worth is serving free meals to youth 18 and under at multiple branch locations. Learn more here.

Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Tarrant County
Curbside individually packaged meals and snacks are available for free to children ages 18 and younger while supplies last at Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Tarrant County branch locations. Weekly at home learn resources will also be distributed with each meal. Other meal distribution options are also available.

As Our Guest At The Mobile Food Pantry:
Please come to the First United Methodist Church of Hurst on the second Friday of the month. Youll be able to choose your groceries between 9 am and 11 am, but you can come as early as 8 am to get registered. Youll usually receive meat, fresh produce, dairy, bread, and pantry items. Youll always receive a warm welcome and friendly smiles from our volunteers.

How It Works:
We partner with over 260 food pantries, churches, and nonprofits across our 12-county service area. We provide those partner agencies with food that they distribute free of charge. Times and days are subject to change, so be sure to call before attending.
The Community Food Bank also hosts a number of free food distributions throughout the month, called Mobile Pantries, and they are listed in the Calendar below.
Tips
- When going to a Partner Agency, be sure to call before you go. Times and locations may change, and some agencies are By Appointment Only.
- Mobile Pantry distributions provide food to households and are first-come, first-served. If you need food for more than one household, be sure to have one adult present for each household.
Who We Are
As a central clearinghouse for donated food and groceries, Tarrant Area Food Bank receives fresh, frozen and nonperishable food donated by the food industry and the community. Dedicated contractors help sort, inspect and repackage the food, which is then distributed to our network of 360 Partner Agencies and Mobile Pantries serving hungry children, families and seniors in North Texas. The people who generously donate their time, funds and skills to TAFB help make the services we provide to the community possible.

What We Do
In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, TAFB has strategically and immediately focused on feeding the most vulnerable populations: seniors, children, the homeless, and those just placed in emergency need due to rapidly increasing job losses.
Thank you so much for volunteering to assist with our Mobile Markets. New norms of social distancing and soaring need have required TAFB to alter its distribution model, straining logistics and surpassing current capacity. TAFB has increased distribution through its network of partners by 65% and we have added 35 emergency mobile food pantries per week to solve for the increased need in our community. That’s where you come in!
Our Mobile Markets now operate like a drive through and volunteers are needed to direct traffic, load vehicles with food, and help the events run smoothly to serve as many families as possible! We ask that all volunteers dress appropriately, wear closed toed shoes and be prepared to be standing for the duration of the event. Also, we ask all volunteers wear a face covering. Water and snacks will be provided.
