What Types Of Activities Will I Be Doing
Volunteer activities vary depending upon the specific location at which youll be volunteering. A wide variety of jobs are performed by Food Bank volunteers, such as:
- Packing emergency food boxes, sorting food or re-packaging bulk food items
- Packing emergency food program carts for client distribution
- Direct client intake and/or assistance
- Cold meal preparation or meal packing specifically for Kids Cafe and a backpack program
- Data entry
- Off-site special events to include: mobile pantries at which you might handle set-up and/or staffing, accepting incoming donations at community events, etc.

Volunteering At St Mary’s
St. Marys General Hospital is privileged to have 325 volunteers supporting our patients, families, and staff. This committed group of community-minded individuals are an integral part of the St. Marys family. They work alongside our staff, patients and families, providing supplementary patient services/support and provide financial support for capital projects.
Volunteers generously provide service in 37 areas and have contributed over 39,000 hours of volunteer service on an annual basis. Each volunteer brings their unique life experience and skills to their volunteer role. How Do I Sign
The process is as simple as 1-2-3! Individuals age 14 and up can register using our online volunteer portal at.
Individuals under 18 will still need to provide a youth waiver signed by a parent/guardian.
1. Simply click on LOGIN in the upper right-hand corner and create an account. 2. Once you log in, you can search for volunteer opportunities using keywords, specific dates and/or the volunteer calendar. 3. Sign up for one or more volunteer shifts that fit your schedule.
If you’re volunteering as a group, please use the unique invitation code sent to you by the opportunity coordinator. Please contact the volunteer engagement team at or 602-343-3134 to set up your group volunteer opportunity and get your invitation code.

Is The Work Strenuous
Most of our volunteer projects are not physically demanding, but do require free movement of arms and legs and could involve standing for long periods of time. May Schools Conduct A Field Trip For Students To Tour Before Volunteering
Yes. Junior high and high school students are welcomed. Volunteerism teaches civic duty and respect while developing leadership skills. If a student is required to have proof of their volunteer experience, please be sure to bring along documentation requiring a staff signature. Please present it to staff upon arrival and sign-in.
St. Marys Food Bank Alliance requires sufficient adult supervision for all youth groups volunteering at each of our facilities. Minimal supervision requirements are one adult supervisor per every ten youth. All adult supervisors will be expected to volunteer alongside the youth for support.

What Should I Wear
The comfort and safety of our volunteers is important. Volunteers should wear comfortable clothes to work in. Please keep in mind that temperatures vary by season and also within our work spaces.
- Due to health department regulations, we ask that you always wear a shirt with at least a short sleeve. T-shirts are preferred due to the types of activities you may be asked to complete. Sleeveless, spaghetti straps and/or tank tops, low-cut or midriff tops are NOT allowed.
- Please wear either pants, capris or appropriate business-length shorts.
- Oversized or baggy pants are not apermitted at the Food Bank. A belt will be required to secure pants at the natural waist.
- Closed toe shoes are REQUIRED when volunteering.
- For your safety, it is highly recommended that all volunteers limit the amount of jewelry worn during a volunteer shift.
- Volunteers should strive at all times to ensure that their clothing, appearance, and personal hygiene are work-appropriate and contribute to a pleasant atmosphere for both other volunteers and clients. Volunteers are encouraged to consult with an SMFBA supervisor whenever necessary regarding what is acceptable for their work area.

What You Will Get
We will provide you with a 7+ day supply of food for each member of your family.
This will include fruit and vegetables, protein, grains, and dairy products plus household goods and personal care items. We aim to offer choice and variety in the food provided and provide you with adequate healthy food based on Canadas Food Guide and any dietary restrictions you might have.
Please keep in mind that your choice of food depends on what is available.
What Is The Minimum Age To Volunteer

- Minimum age with adult: 12 years old
- Minimum age without adult: 16 years old
Please complete a Youth Release Form for volunteers under 18 years old.
* All minor volunteers completing court-ordered community service must have a parent/guardian participate for their first shift and have charges approved by a St. Mary’s staff member prior.

Volunteering At St Marys Food Bank
Every day, thousands of Arizonans go hungry. The food insecurity in Arizona is rapidly growing, with a startling number of people being driven into poverty every day. To combat this crisis demands our immediate action and collaboration.
As part of their social responsibility, Drake is committed to giving back to this community through active involvement in the surrounding areas, both economically and socially. They are always looking for opportunities where they can help make a difference and improve peoples lives.
Last July 24, The Drake Human Resources Department volunteered at St. Marys Food Bank in Phoenix. The team had no idea what an important and eye-opening experience it would be for the members who attended. These volunteers were assigned to pack emergency food boxes for families struggling financially due to unemployment or other hardships during this pandemic. After hours spent stuffing bags of food into boxes while listening to different stories and views these people felt like true humanitarians by days end.
Volunteering for a cause is one of the most fulfilling experiences A memorable and rewarding day. It teaches empathy and builds character, and helps people connect with their communities. Thats why Drake cultivates the spirit of volunteerism through initiatives like this. They think about the big picture and how their actions can affect everyone as responsible corporate citizens.
Do I Need To Bring Anything When Volunteering
Generally, any supplies required to complete a volunteer project will always be provided by the Food Bank. If you are required to track your hours, please be sure to bring your school or work forms with you for our staff to sign.

Please join us on Friday, November 12 from 7:30 10:30 am at the St. Marys Food Bank Distribution Center located at 3131 W. Thomas Road for another joint Arizona ITE and ITS Arizona Community Service and Outreach Committee event!
We will be assisting the food bank by loading food boxes into vehicles and assisting with the general process. Please respond to Brandon Forrey at by Wednesday, November 10 with names, ages , and contact information.
AGE REQUIREMENTS:

DRESS CODE:
The comfort and safety of our volunteers is important. Due to health codes and safety precautions, a strict volunteer dress code is in effect. Volunteers MUST wear:
- Closed-toe shoes .
- All shirts must have sleeves
- Pants, jeans, or workout attire preferred. Shorts are allowed at a respectable length.

Do I Have To Attend A Training Session Prior To Volunteering
Volunteers will receive a brief orientation about the Food Bank and a more detailed verbal description and/or instructions about their assigned project prior to each shift. Some activities may require additional training sessions, but you will be notified if this is necessary and of the dates and times for training.
What To Expect

We recognize that if you need a food bank, you are likely experiencing challenges in your life. All our neighbourhood food banks create a welcoming environment for those who visit us to access food. In order to make your experience positive, neighbourhood food bank staff and volunteers create an environment of mutual respect and caring for all food bank clients.

Some questions you may have are:
1. What kind of food will I get?You will receive 7+ days of nutritious food on each visit. This will include both canned/packaged food and fresh food like milk, fresh produce, vegetables, or meat.
2. Will I get to choose what kind of food I get?We try to give some choice in the food provided based on Canadas Food Guide. While all supplies are not available every day, we do our best to provide the same things to all clients on each visit.
3. Will it be embarrassing to come to a food bank?All clients are treated with dignity and respect. We speak to you privately and confidentially regarding your financial and personal situation. People from all different walks of life use a food bank, so dont worry that you and your family will be put in an embarrassing situation.
