Are You Able To Host A Ukrainian Family
When hearing reports of the war in Ukraine, and the millions of Ukrainians that have been forced to flee their homeland, many have asked what they can do to help. Over 80,000 Ukrainians have already arrived to Canada through a special visa program created by Immigration Canada. An additional 500,000 have applied to the program and are expected to arrive in the coming months. Many are arriving to Toronto and are without family here in Canada to help them. Among those will be some who are vulnerable to human trafficking, particularly seniors, single women, and women with children. There is an immediate need for families to host for a period of between one and six months some of those who have arrived. If you would like to learn more about hosting a Ukrainian family, please go to Archdiocese of Toronto Ukrainian Crisis and register for a virtual information session.
St Marys Food Bank On Track To Break Record Numbers
PHOENIX St. Marys Food Bank announced the organization is quickly approaching record numbers of families in need.
The two main food bank locations, one in Phoenix and the other in Surprise, are seeing 1,239 families per day through the first 12 days of September. Thats 6% higher than Augusts record totals, with around 70 more families each day. Many of these families are first-time clients and clients who have not visited the bank in over a year. Of the nearly 50,000 families that visited both locations in August, almost 10,000 fell into either of those two categories.

The influx has been so great that it has impacted traffic in the area. St. Marys has been forced to send those waiting in lines around the block to prevent traffic on Thomas Road from backing up. The bottom line is we are seeing more clients than we did during the COVID outbreak in the spring of 2020, and we have a lot less food available to us through government programs that kept us going during that time, said the director of public relations for St. Marys Food Bank Jerry Brown.
Brown also said that the food bank is buying more food than ever before, setting the group back financially due to the rising costs of food by inflation. If youd like to donate your time or food to the bank,

Valley View Community Food Bank Facing Unprecedented Demand For Help
Valley View Community Food Bank , headquartered at 10771 West Peoria Avenue in Sun City, is mobilizing to answer as many requests for help as possible. Jesse Ramirez, founder and president of the non-profit organization, says that in one day he received more than 160 calls on his emergency phone from people desperate for assistance. The food bank is seeing as many as 500 clients per day, many of them who have never asked for help before. Food counselors and other agencies are also turning to VVCFB for help. With the sudden cancellation of school, and the shuttering of many businesses for an unknown length of time, many people are scrambling to provide basic survival necessities for children, grandchildren, and themselves.Jesse Ramirez states, We are in need of more donations, especially food, personal hygiene items, and cleaning and sanitation supplies. He explains that the cost of staple food items such as rice and beans if these items can even be acquired right now have doubled and tripled. So monetary donations to facilitate the purchase of needed resources is extremely helpful. Particularly sought after are such essentials as items to make soup, canned tomatoes, and fresh produce. Grocers are not supplying produce because of the increased volume of buying being experienced now in retail establishments.

Barros Pizza Raises $415k For St Marys Food Bank
Barros Pizza raised more than $415,000 for St. Marys Food Bank during the 11th Doran Barro Holiday Hunger Fight on Dec. 6.
We cant thank you, customers, enough for their loyalty and support this year and every year for the last 11 years, said Mike Barro co-owner of Barros Pizza.
Each December we honor our mother, Doran Barro, by donating 100% of our sales at all our locations to St. Marys Food Bank. This year we blew our previous record out of the water by almost $85,000. We are so grateful to our customers.
All sales on Dec. 6, from 46 Barros locations in Phoenix and Tucson donated to St. Marys Food Bank to help those in Arizona facing hard times during the holidays.
With this years contribution, Barros Pizza has raised more than $2.5 million, which equals 17.5 million meals for Arizonas hungry and every dollar raised equates to seven meals served.
The Doran Barro Holiday Hunger Fight is St. Marys Food Banks largest cause-related marketing effort each year.
In this year when so much strain has been put on our Food Banks resources, for the Barro family and their loyal customers to support the Doran Barro Holiday Hunger Fight with a record total is just incredible, said Tom Kertis, St. Marys president and chief executive officer.
We so appreciate the Barros for helping St. Marys feed so many struggling families and make their holiday season a little brighter.
