What Are People Saying About St Mary’s Food Bank

Here are some reviews from our users.

“They are kind, generous and very helpful. After being diagnosed with Covid- they were more than accommodating in delivering groceries to my place. I couldn’t get out to the grocery store so without their generosity I would have gone hungry.”

“I got to hand it to St Mary’s. They don’t check out the cans food they were expired 3 years old I found in my box . The meats are not very well they’re very outdated. I think these people is giving out food to Saint Mary’s they should be giving out good food NOT outdated food. If I was the owner of this building I would have good food that’s not outdated or can food. So I gave them “one star” “they’re not worth it.” I’d like to see something change I’d like to see them get fresh food that’s not outdated and can food.”

“I love this place. They have gotten me out of some tough situations. But why do they claim to be open until 1: only for people to show up at 1 and be told its closed. If thats the case, tell people you close at 1 so at least they can plan accordingly.”

“The object of going to the food bank was to get help during this rough time. The person helping us was very rude and he didn’t seem to be the type of person to work in a place dealing with ppl. I’m grateful for the food but was disappointed with the guy’s attitude.”

The World’s First Food Bank

Larry Breitenstein, PhD, chair of the social work department at Slippery Rock University, remembers child protection work in Kentucky in the early ’70s. “I used to carry extra canned food in my car, just in case. Almost half my families needed help with food. Food stamps were new and food banks were scarce. We had petty cash for food, but it was never enough. I almost always bought food because I never knew when I was going to find a starving kid.”

Valley View Community Food Bank Facing Unprecedented Demand For Help

St. Mary’s Food Bank trying to help people as inflation continues to rise

Valley View Community Food Bank , headquartered at 10771 West Peoria Avenue in Sun City, is mobilizing to answer as many requests for help as possible. Jesse Ramirez, founder and president of the non-profit organization, says that in one day he received more than 160 calls on his emergency phone from people desperate for assistance. The food bank is seeing as many as 500 clients per day, many of them who have never asked for help before. Food counselors and other agencies are also turning to VVCFB for help. With the sudden cancellation of school, and the shuttering of many businesses for an unknown length of time, many people are scrambling to provide basic survival necessities for children, grandchildren, and themselves.Jesse Ramirez states, We are in need of more donations, especially food, personal hygiene items, and cleaning and sanitation supplies. He explains that the cost of staple food items such as rice and beans if these items can even be acquired right now have doubled and tripled. So monetary donations to facilitate the purchase of needed resources is extremely helpful. Particularly sought after are such essentials as items to make soup, canned tomatoes, and fresh produce. Grocers are not supplying produce because of the increased volume of buying being experienced now in retail establishments.

Volunteering At St Marys Food Bank

Every day, thousands of Arizonans go hungry. The food insecurity in Arizona is rapidly growing, with a startling number of people being driven into poverty every day. To combat this crisis demands our immediate action and collaboration.

As part of their social responsibility, Drake is committed to giving back to this community through active involvement in the surrounding areas, both economically and socially. They are always looking for opportunities where they can help make a difference and improve peoples lives.

Last July 24, The Drake Human Resources Department volunteered at St. Marys Food Bank in Phoenix. The team had no idea what an important and eye-opening experience it would be for the members who attended. These volunteers were assigned to pack emergency food boxes for families struggling financially due to unemployment or other hardships during this pandemic. After hours spent stuffing bags of food into boxes while listening to different stories and views these people felt like true humanitarians by days end.

Volunteering for a cause is one of the most fulfilling experiences A memorable and rewarding day. It teaches empathy and builds character, and helps people connect with their communities. Thats why Drake cultivates the spirit of volunteerism through initiatives like this. They think about the big picture and how their actions can affect everyone as responsible corporate citizens.

Barros Pizza raised more than $415,000 for St. Marys Food Bank during the 11th Doran Barro Holiday Hunger Fight on Dec. 6.

We cant thank you, customers, enough for their loyalty and support this year and every year for the last 11 years, said Mike Barro co-owner of Barros Pizza.

Each December we honor our mother, Doran Barro, by donating 100% of our sales at all our locations to St. Marys Food Bank. This year we blew our previous record out of the water by almost $85,000. We are so grateful to our customers.

All sales on Dec. 6, from 46 Barros locations in Phoenix and Tucson donated to St. Marys Food Bank to help those in Arizona facing hard times during the holidays.

With this years contribution, Barros Pizza has raised more than $2.5 million, which equals 17.5 million meals for Arizonas hungry and every dollar raised equates to seven meals served.

The Doran Barro Holiday Hunger Fight is St. Marys Food Banks largest cause-related marketing effort each year.

In this year when so much strain has been put on our Food Banks resources, for the Barro family and their loyal customers to support the Doran Barro Holiday Hunger Fight with a record total is just incredible, said Tom Kertis, St. Marys president and chief executive officer.

We so appreciate the Barros for helping St. Marys feed so many struggling families and make their holiday season a little brighter.
