St Marys Looking For Donations Volunteers

Volunteers step up to help St. Mary’s Food Bank

PHOENIX A Valley food bank said theyre about 8,000 turkeys short of their goal for this years holiday distribution.

Organizers attribute some of the increase in need and smaller donations to inflation.

According to the federal government, families in Phoenix are spending about 12% more on goods than this time last year.

“We keep thinking we’ve seen the peak of this and the next week, more people come, said Jerry Brown, the food banks director of public relations.

According to Brown, the food bank recently helped about 7,000 people in a week.

People that were on the edge, are over the edge, people that were donating to us and coming as a volunteer are now seen on the other side of the line receiving food, he said.

St. Marys is also looking for more volunteers to help with the increase in demand.

“We’ve got back to the point where we have volunteers to get the job done but they have to work longer and harder when they’re here, Brown said.

St. Marys will hold its 17th annual Super Saturday Turkey Drive this weekend at Albertsons and Safeway stores around the Valley.

The stores will help by matching the first 500 that get donated.

Volunteering At St Marys Food Bank

St. Marys looking for donations, volunteers

Every day, thousands of Arizonans go hungry. The food insecurity in Arizona is rapidly growing, with a startling number of people being driven into poverty every day. To combat this crisis demands our immediate action and collaboration.

As part of their social responsibility, Drake is committed to giving back to this community through active involvement in the surrounding areas, both economically and socially. They are always looking for opportunities where they can help make a difference and improve peoples lives.

Last July 24, The Drake Human Resources Department volunteered at St. Marys Food Bank in Phoenix. The team had no idea what an important and eye-opening experience it would be for the members who attended. These volunteers were assigned to pack emergency food boxes for families struggling financially due to unemployment or other hardships during this pandemic. After hours spent stuffing bags of food into boxes while listening to different stories and views these people felt like true humanitarians by days end.

Volunteering for a cause is one of the most fulfilling experiences A memorable and rewarding day. It teaches empathy and builds character, and helps people connect with their communities. Thats why Drake cultivates the spirit of volunteerism through initiatives like this. They think about the big picture and how their actions can affect everyone as responsible corporate citizens.

St Marys Food Bank In Phoenix Needs Volunteers Urgently

Volunteers play a critical role in keeping certain organizations and services up and running. From family caregivers to school volunteers, these unpaid workers are unsung heroes. One nonprofit has an urgent need for volunteers.

Jerry Brown is the director of public relations at St. Marys Food Bank in Phoenix. He says theyre seeing an unprecedented number of families coming in for food.

“We’re packing 50,000 emergency food boxes every month. And that’s something that’s done completely by volunteers.”

Like 88-year-old Charles Crum. He says he comes here because its his way to give back and help those who are struggling.

“With rent so high and gas so high, and it’s either buy gas or feed the family so that’s . It’s a tough choice, maam,” said Crum.

Although volunteers are slowly coming back, Brown says its hard to keep up with the demand.

“We’re out collecting the food, we’re out distributing the food. But building those boxes is something that we need volunteers to do.”

Businesses used to send employees to volunteer occasionally but because many organizations are still remote or hybrid, its harder to get those teams together again.

“And businesses were slow to come back to the office,” said Brown. “You know, when you’re working from home and a lot of them are still working from home. You can’t get that group of 20 to 25 people from the office to come down and do a packing session because they’re in 25 different homes now.”
