The pervasiveness of hunger has become undeniable, and demand for food assistance continues to rise. But, working together, we all make it easier for our neighbors to reach out when they need help. We’re feeding families. We’re changing lives.
Its just as simple as a meal, but when youre a single mom, its more than just that. When we can come home to these prepared meals, it takes hours off my evening.

Second Harvest Food Bank provides food for people in need in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties. In addition to providing food assistance that is dignified, healthy, and accessible, Second Harvest also engages in advocacy efforts to improve food assistance and nutrition programs.
This grant is for general support. Second Harvest is the largest nonprofit provider of food in the region, collaborating with more than 300 nonprofits in the Bay Area. It specifically targets high-need areas such as Daly City, South San Francisco, the San Mateo County coastline, Redwood City, East Palo Alto, Downtown and East San Jose, and Gilroy. In addition, Second Harvest also aims to increase access to CalFresh Californias food stamp program and provides services to families living at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty level.

The safety of those utilizing second harvest food bank services is our top priority, and we are doing everything to check all donations of Jif peanut butter against the affected lot numbers. If you have received Jif Peanut butter from SHGV in the last few months, we ask that you please check the lot numbers against the recall to ensure the safety of your food. Likewise, if you are donating Jif peanut butter, please check the lot numbers as well so as not to put those utilizing SHGV services and products at risk. Response and Modifications in Operations due to COVID-19
- We provide increased emergency food as well as food distributions to the community.
- We are creatively serving a higher number of isolated seniors in need of food or other programs.
- We draw on the strengths of healthy community members by recruiting capable volunteers.
- We continue to provide emergency shelter, housing resources, & referrals via phone at 991-8007. If you dont have a phone, please utilize the video doorbell/intercom outside of the building.
- We observe social distancing of staff from clients and staff from one-another, observe and enforce mask wearing at all times, and maintain modified staff hours in-office and work from home hours.
- We have increased use of gloves, increased hand washing and sanitizer use.
Due to health concerns for the community and our employees as well as the competing priorities for emergency financial assistance and emergency food, the Daly City Community Service Center is unable to accept individuals donations some food, used clothing or used household items at this time. All Students Eat Free This Year
The California Universal Meals Program has been established for this school year 2022/2023. Through this program, the state is reimbursing the school district for meals. All students may get one free breakfast and one free lunch each day by providing their student ID number at the register in the cafeteria.
We do want to encourage all families to fill out a new meal application online for this new school year some of our school funding is based on qualifying free and reduced meal applications. Online applications can be found on the school website home page.
Additional meals and snack items will be available for purchase at full price. Money may be added to your student’s account by visiting Titan at and clicking on the family portal. Cash is also accepted at all cafeteria serving lines.
Any student balance left from last year on myschoolbucks has been transferred to your students new account on our Titan system.
Restaurants & Food Service Rescue Program
We can deliver your unsold prepared and perishable food or event leftovers directly to our smaller community partners. We provide donation records for your tax purposes.

Welcome back to At-Home Learning. As a reminder, class schedules are available here.
Meal distribution for children under 18 continues each Tuesday and Thursday from 11-1 at Jefferson High School , Terra Nova , and Westmoor . Tuesday’s packets contain food for two days and Thursday’s packets contain food for three days. Families can pick up meals for any child under 18 years old in their household, whether or not the child is present for meal pickup.
The Second Harvest / Pacific Islands Together Family Harvest food bank at Jefferson High School has new hours starting this week. Food will be distributed on Thursday from 11-1 and Saturdays from 11-1. Families arriving for the food bank should enter from Mission Street.
Free Delivery for Seniors / High Risk Individuals Jefferson HS graduate / UCLA freshman Kelly Lin has started a local chapter of Leave It To Us, a free shopping service for seniors and other at-risk individuals who cannot leave home.
