Pet Food Donations In High Demand To Meet Needs Of Those Facing Hardships
By Rebecca West
It was recently announced that the Humane Society is trying to help animals of pet owners in need by teaming up with the Advertising Council for a series of PSAs called Pets and People Together. Community members are being asked to donate pet food for animals to local food banks that accept it. And they arent the only ones right now asking the public for help with pet food donations. Shelters and rescues across the country are asking for help with this right now, too.
Do You Accept Donations Of Pet Food
Yes! While we are fortunate enough to get our dog and cat food donated by Purina for our shelter animals, many struggling families in our community are still in need. Pet food donations are graciously accepted at the SPCA for use in our Pet Food Pantry. This program is designed to distribute donated pet food and supplies to the areas of the community where it is needed most. This is done through the SPCAs Pet Food Pantry, case assistance, community events, donations to other local rescues/animal welfare agencies and more.
New: We are now able to accept previously-opened bags of dry pet food.
For questions about this program, please call Amy Jaworski at 875-7360 ext. 224 or send her an email at email@example.com

What Can You Donate To A Pet Food Bank
Most pet food banks need a wide range of pet food that can be easily passed on. As well as food, it’s always worth asking to see if the food banks are in need of accessories for animals, too. Some of the things you can drop off include:
- Food pouches for both dogs, cats and smaller household pets
- Dried biscuits/food
- Pet accessories, such as warm beds and blankets during the winter months
- Pet cleaning supplies, including pet shampoo
Organization And Cleaning Supplies
As you can imagine, there are plenty of potty accidents to clean up around the shelter, as well as everyday messes that happen when you have a lot of animals together in one place.
Paper towels, garbage bags, rubber gloves, spray bottles, storage bins, and Ziplock bags are among the items that help animal shelters stay clean and organized.
Some shelters will also take rolls of newspaper, so long as any glossy ads are removed for safety.

Care Seeking Foster Parents Donations Food For Dogs Cats
After 24 years of rescuing dogs and cats from overloaded shelters, CARE for Animals enjoys faithful support among animal lovers in Central Arkansas. So, when the cupboard was bare this summer, all they had to do was ask.
“We have a pet food pantry where we provide dog and cat food for individuals going through rough times,” says executive director Alexandra Mounger. “We rely solely on donations for that. Over the summer we put out a post that we were empty.
“We had something like 960 pounds of dog and cat food arrive by Amazon two days later. It’s heartening to see such support from the community.”
And, says treasurer Harry Light, “we have been very fortunate to have some estate gifts to kind of see us through the lean times. But as in any nonprofit during the last couple of years, since the pandemic, the general contributions are down.”
“And resources, unfortunately, are still the same cost, if not more so,” Mounger says.
CARE is a 501 nonprofit corporation that’s fully funded by donations, its website explains. Donations support rescued pets, pay three staff members’ salaries and the lease of the headquarters at 5516 Kavanaugh Blvd. in Little Rock’s Heights business district.
Donations also help the organization fulfill the second half of its mission: providing vouchers to offset the cost of spaying or neutering a pet for animal lovers whose income makes it hard to pay that cost themselves.
