What Can You Donate To A Pet Food Bank
Most pet food banks need a wide range of pet food that can be easily passed on. As well as food, it’s always worth asking to see if the food banks are in need of accessories for animals, too. Some of the things you can drop off include:
- Food pouches for both dogs, cats and smaller household pets
- Dried biscuits/food
- Pet accessories, such as warm beds and blankets during the winter months
- Pet cleaning supplies, including pet shampoo
Moral Support: Gathering Your Guts
It can be difficult to contact aid organizations or shelters to ask for help. Many people are embarrassed to ask for assistance and fear being judged. This leads many people to procrastinate often at their pets expense. But dont worry: Its rarely as bad as you think it will be.
First of all, relatively few people decide to work in a non-profit or low-income assistance organization to dole out judgment they go into such work because they love animals and want to help. They are typically warm, compassionate, and empathetic, and theyll be happy to help in any way they can.
Additionally, the employees and staff at most non-profits and aid organizations have been trained to assist people in tough situations. Theyve assisted other owners in similar circumstances before and are taught techniques to help people without making them feel bad about their circumstances.
Its usually best to rip off the Band-Aid quickly. So, go ahead and pick up the phone or visit one of these organizations in person. Chances are theyll quickly put you at ease and, before you know it, theyll be helping you obtain food for your dog.
Some people may feel better sending an email rather than speaking directly with the staff. Thats usually perfectly acceptable, and it may even be an easier method of communication for the staff. Dont feel like you need to explain your life story in the first email you simply need to make the connection and start the ball rolling.
Thank you for your time,

Pet Food Stamps Program Open To Low
A new petfood donation program is feeding the pets of low-income families and food stamp recipients in the US who would otherwise not be able to feed their pets, according to a report.
The petfood donation-based program, Pet Food Stamps, had more than 45,000 pets sign up in two weeks, said founder and executive director, Marc Okon.
Based in New York, USA, the program is open to anyone in the US. Once a familys need and income is verified, they receive petfood monthly, for a six-month period, from online petfood retailer PetFlow.com. Families can only apply for the program through an online application, but Okon said mail-in applications will be accepted once the program is moved to its new office.
“We’re not looking for government funding at this point,” said Okon. “Should the government be willing to provide assistance further down the line, we will look into it.”
Okon said the program’s nonprofit status is pending.

Pet Food Banks Are On The Riseheres How To Support One Near You
im Cox would do anything for her pets. But in 2018, she found herself struggling to feed her furry family: Riley and Squeal, a mother and daughter dog duo, and cat Cosmo.
Cox was unable to work due to a disability. Without her regular income, she was running out of ways to pay for pet food, and feared she might have to relinquish her pets. Her mother had already chipped in to feed the animals, and so had her brother. Cox didnt know where to turn next.
Thats when she heard about the pet food pantry at Posey Shelter Pet Promoters in nearby Cedartown, Georgia. It was a godsend, Cox says. I was just blown away. I had heard about food pantries for people who are having hard times, but I had never heard about anybody that helped with your pets.
That was about two years ago now. Since then, Cox has gone from pantry participant to volunteer, and she is still overcome with emotion when she thinks of the many families and animals who have benefitted from the program. There are people I know who would have to give their pets up if not for the pet food pantry, Cox says, noting that rural Polk County is an area with a large population of homeless animals. So for anybody trying to help one of those animals, the last thing I would want to see happen is for them not be able to keep their pet because they cant get food.

Free Pet Food And Supplies In Florida
Find the locations of free pet food pantries in Florida. There are a number of charities, shelters, Human Society sites and other agencies that help low income families take care of their dog or cat. Learn how and where to get free dog or cat food near you as well as other supplies from pantries or charities. The Florida locations help the poor, elderly, disabled, and veterans among others care for their pets.
The free pet food banks and pantries rely on donations. All of the pet food they pass out to the needy is based on what is donated. In addition to a bag of dog food or cans of cat kibble, the charities may have toys, beds, crates, leashes, and more. Some of the charities in Florida may also offer free vet care, medications, surgery, or treatment on site. Or they give referrals.
Veterans and the elderly also rely on the pet food pantries too, or people with service animals. The disabled can get help as well. When applying for free pet supplies or food, bring proof of residents, income, details on the pet, and more.

Start Your Own Pet Food Bank
Though the trend is growingand need is greatpet food banks have yet to hit every town and county in the United States. According to experts, the best way to advocate for or launch one is to team up with local rescues, then reach out to your community pet lovers, local businesses and even big pet food companies to ask for donations. Often, grocery and pet food stores can help by donating broken packages and short-dated items that theyre unable to sell, as do many veterinary offices. Most businesses are happy to see their products go to good use.
Kitty Bungalow, for example, is a Los Angeles feral cat rescue that held a one-day cat food bank for South LA and Downtown LA low-income residents who care for community cat colonies this spring. To get supplies, the organization applied for a community food bank grant from Alley Cat Allies, which allowed them to buy food for the pantry. They also reached out to cat food brands for donations, says Melanie Wagner, Ph.D., CPDT-KA, executive director of Kitty Bungalow. In total, they were able to distribute about 460 bags of cat food to Los Angeles residents, helping to sustain hundreds of community cats.
