Can You Start Your Own Food Bank For Pets

If you’re struggling to find a local food bank for pets, another alternative is to start your own. It will take time and planning, but it’s not impossible. Spread the word on social media or in your local area, then start collecting donations and see if there are any pet owners in need of supplies.

If you’re not sure how to go about creating your own food bank, it’s always worth speaking to your local council for additional support.

  • Weekly food distribution event with the Foodbank of Santa Barbara County at Guadalupe Senior Center.

The COVID-19 pandemic has created extreme challenges for two- and four-legged family members alike. Across the nation, the number of pets living in poverty has increased by more than 20 percent compared to pre-COVID estimates, according to an ASCPA study. To prevent suffering and ensure companion animals stay healthy and with their owners through these difficult times, nonprofit C.A.R.E.4Paws is rallying the community to support its Pet Food Donation Drive-Thru taking place on , with multiple drop-off locations available countywide.

On Saturday, April 24, supporters can drop off pet food and monetary donations at Earl Warren Showgrounds in Santa Barbara, Deckers Brands in Goleta, and Santa Ynez Valley Humane Society & Dog Adoption Welfare Group in Buellton. On Sunday, April 25, drive-thru donations can be dropped off at Ryon Park in Lompoc and Elks Event Center in Santa Maria. Contributions of dog and cat food can be dropped off in bins . The C.A.R.E.4Paws team is of course on hand to help unload donations as needed.

Where To Donate Dog Food

According to the ASPCA, roughly 8 million animals are processed into shelters each year. This gives animal handlers tons of work to do and thus the donations made freely given to them make the processes 100x easier.

There are many local pet treat pantries and non-profit organizations that are willing to accept your donations and a simple google search like Dog Donation Near me should help in finding one where you can make an impact in the lives of many dogs through your compassionate donations.

However, when it comes to donating to organizations that are for the animal cause, other items are great to donate as well other than pet food.

Used pet accessories for instance are an acceptable donation to shelters, especially if they have minimal wear. An old dog bed that your dog might have overgrown and no longer needs might be a great donation as well.

Stocking Orange County Food Pantries With Pet Supplies

OC Animal Allies No Empty Bowls program helps people in our community who need time to get back on their feet while preventing their pet from going hungry or being relinquished to a shelter due to lack of resources. We acquire, store, and donate pet food and pet care items to local organizations feeding our low-income community.

Many people in our community simply need a helping paw with feeding their animals for a few weeks as they get back on their feet after losing a job, the death of a family member or recovering from an illness. With help from the community, we aim to prevent pets from going hungry or ending up at a shelter because their owner has fallen on hard times.

Our distribution partners pick up donated food and other available supplies from our warehouse to distribute it at their food pantries. Since homeless pet owners typically cannot carry large supplies of food, the agencies volunteers will bag one weeks worth of food to distribute to them.

How Long Does Open Dog Food Last

    Donations save lives!

First, lets consider the food you put down for your pet. When you open a can of pet food, ideally you should serve a portion that your dog or cat will finish in one sitting. If your pet does not finish the entire portion of canned food, it is best to pick up any uneaten food within 30 minutes, and even more quickly on warmer days.

    Together Lets Feed Animals

The Humane Society of Pinellas manages and maintains a Pet Food Pantry for residents of Pinellas County when they need a little help providing food for their pets. Our pantry is a source of sustenance for pets on a short-term, emergency basis as well as long-term help to individuals who may be unemployed, living with a disability, or receiving government assistance. To obtain pet food from our pantry, we ask pet owners to download our Pet Food Pantry Client Profile Form and bring it and a copy of their drivers license to our Pet Food Pantry POD , located in our parking lot. Copies of the form are also available onsite for people who may not have access to a printer. We understand that pet owners may face financial hardships at any time so we do not require documentation of need for the first three months while receiving food from our Pet Food Pantry. After three months, we will require proof of unemployment, disability or government assistance. While we strive to provide pet food and certain supplies, our pantry is stocked through the generosity of our donors so we are unable to guarantee the availability of food. Please call 727-797-7722 ext. 227 for inquiries of pet food.

How Charlies Helps Pets And People

Livingston animal shelter receives massive donation of pet food, supplies

The human-animal bond is powerful. Studies show that having a pet helps peoples mental and physical health. Pets give us constant, unconditional love. Many people tell us that their pets have saved their lives.

As part of the Downtown Eastside, we have become a resource for many pet guardians and community support workers by providing supplies and preventative care. To help pet guardians we take a harm reduction approach by showing respect for the person and building relationships. Charlies is a volunteer-operated program and all pet food and supplies are donated. A group of dedicated BC SPCA volunteers allows us to help more animals and maintain a presence in the community.

We strive to provide a supportive, respectful and friendly environment. We want Charlies to be a safe place for visitors, members, volunteers and animals.
