North Texas Mobile Food Bank Returns To Paris

The North Texas Food Bank, along with members of the Texas National Guard, distributed meal kits and boxes of produce to Lamar County residents Wednesday moring in the parking lot of the Lamar Avenue Church of Christ.

The North Texas Mobile Food Bank will return to Paris on Oct. 21.

The mobile pantry will be open from 9 to 11 a.m. in the Lamar Avenue Church of Christ parking lot, 3535 Lamar Ave. Participants will receive two boxes, one filled with pantry staples and the the other filled with fresh fruits and vegetables.

Dallas, Nov. 03, 2022 — The North Texas Food Bank announced today that together with its redistribution partners, Crossroads Community Services and Sharing Life, the North Texas feeding network will host more than 50+ holiday food distributions during the month of November to provide food to the nearly 700,000 people facing hunger within its 13-county service territory. This includes more than 250,000 children, or one in every five in our region, giving the NTFB service area the 4th highest level of food-insecure children in the country.

The holiday season can be especially difficult for those who are already struggling to make ends meet each month and with inflated food, gas and housing costs, our neighbors in every zip code are facing increasingly difficult choices every day – deciding whether to purchase groceries or pay for other necessities such as gas, medicine or utilities, said Trisha Cunningham, President and CEO of the North Texas Food Bank. During the holiday season, food doesnt just provide nourishment, it is a way for people to connect, celebrate and spend time with loved ones. So, when it is missing, it leaves a hole bigger than hunger itself. Delivery methods are extreme during this pandemic to avoid social contact. Drivers are told to leave their windows up. Workers slip an intake distribution form through the vehicle window. Guard members take a picture of the form through the window to keep track of what people receive. The boxes are then loaded into open trunks or on top of the vehicle if trunks cant be popped open from inside. Drivers can reload the boxes after they pass away from the checkpoint.

Because drivers are told to keep their windows up it is difficult to speak with them but the food bank people received a message.

I do see the gratitude and thankfulness on those faces sothats nice to see, Hawthorne said.

Thursdays mobile food pantry was the largest so far, but itis not the last.

Well be doing more in the future. We ramp up three distributions a day for our 13 counties, Hawthorne said.

A food bank is a non-profit that safely stores millions of pounds of food that will soon be delivered to local food programs, like a food pantry. The food stored by food banks is donated from local neighbors, retailers, grocery stores, and restaurants.

A food pantry is a distribution center where hungry families can receive food. Supplied with food from a food bank, pantries feed hundreds of people per week! Because every community is different, there are many different types of pantries.

NTFB works with a network of more than 200 Partner Agencies and provides access to food at more than 1,000 feeding locations in our service area. Partner Agencies include food pantries, after school programs, senior meal programs, shelters, soup kitchens, and other facilities.

The Social Services Assistance Team of the food bank is a Community Partner building a bridge between Health and Human Services and communities in our service area to provide access to food, cash, and healthcare assistance. While the SSA Team assists with the application process, we do not determine eligibility. HHSC processes the applications and determines eligibility and has up to 30 days to process your SNAP application.

Hundreds Line Up For Free Food Baskets At Drive

Inflation is pushing more North Texas residents to seek help from food banks to feed their families.

Juani Lara, 45, is one of the hundreds of people that lined up early Friday to pick up free food baskets at the North Texas Food Bank drive-through event at the University of North Texas campus in Dallas.

Although gas prices are going down, Lara said, rising prices on food essentials are leaving her short.

We are struggling because, easily, youd spend $150 on just a few things and not all that youd need, said Lara, who returned to a food distribution event for the first time in a year.

Nationally, the number of families returning to food banks has increased as a result of 40-year inflation, reported The Associated Press

Jeff Smith, communications manager for NTFB, said the impact of inflation is evident in many North Texas families. During the COVID-19 pandemic, this organization averaged about 11 million meals per month, and just this May that number increased to 13 million.

On Friday, families waited in line for up to two hours to receive their meals. The line of cars reached Interstate 20, about 1.3 miles long. According to a UNTD campus police officer at the site, there were about 75 vehicles in line around 10 a.m.

Right now everything is very expensive, so thats why you look for and they told me that they were giving it out here, Savala said as he sat in his car.

Thousands Line Up In Dallas For North Texas Food Bank’s ‘largest Mobile Food Distribution Ever’

DALLAS – Thousands of families lined up in Dallas on Saturday for a giveaway hosted by the North Texas Food Bank, and the organization called it its largest ever.

Organizers said the NTFB gave away over 7,000 turkeys and around 600,000 pounds of food in Fair Park to those families in need as the holidays approach and the COVID-19 pandemic continues.

Saturday’s event was also the the NTFB’s fifth food giveaway in Fair Park since the pandemic began in March.

Aerial views of the event showed lines of vehicles throughout the morning as volunteers placed boxes of food inside trunks.

“I see blessings coming to us cause we all struggling. And I appreciate North Texas helping us out,” resident Samantha Woods said while waiting in her vehicle.

“I haven’t been working since December, can’t find a job, they cut my unemployment, it’s a real big deal,” said Cynthia Culter.

Organizers said the food given away on Saturday was enough to feed about 25,000 people.

“It was a whole lot of people who pitched in on this, me partnering up with the North Texas Food Bank, the Tarrant County Food Bank, Pastor Brown bringing in those volunteers and the Baptist Ministers Union,” said Mitchell Ward, CEO of MW Logistics

Stop Hunger Build Hope Capital Campaign

In 2015, the North Texas Food Bank announced a 10-year plan to provide access to 92 million meals annually by 2025. The goal reflects the current need for food assistance in NTFB’s 13-county service area and represents a nearly 50 percent increase in meals distributed today.

In February 2017, NTFB publicly launched the Stop Hunger Build Hope Capital Campaign to help fund a new Northern Distribution Center and other initiatives that will allow NTFB to reach the 92 million meal goal. In January 2018, the $55 million goal that would fund additional NTFB capacity, partner agency capacity and provide more insights about clients was achieved.

Next Mobile Food Pantry Event is March 25

The University of North Texas at Dallas and the North Texas Food Bank will partner to bring a drive-thru mobile food pantry to campus on Friday, March 25 from 9 a.m. noon.

The free, drive-thru service is available to all community members in need of food support. Participants will be asked to complete a simple intake form while remaining inside their cars and UNT Dallas volunteers will load a box of food into the trunk and securely close it.

UNT Dallas police officers will direct the flow of traffic entering and exiting the UNT Dallas campus, located at 7300 University Hills Boulevard, Dallas, TX 75241.

UNT Dallas mobile food pantry events are held the third Friday of each month from 9 a.m. till noon .

North Texas Food Bank Will Bring Mobile Pantry To Fair Park This Week

The North Texas Food Bank , in conjunction with Fair Park First, Spectra, and In the City for Good, will distribute free food at Fair Park on Thursday, April 2 from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM. The pick-up location will be in Lots 5A and 6A, located in between Robert B Cullum Boulevard and 2nd Avenue inside Fair Park. Participants should enter through Gate 5 only, located at the intersection of Robert B Cullum Boulevard and Grand Avenue. The Dallas Police Department will be onsite to assist with traffic flow.

“While COVID-19 has affected us all, it’s great that we’re able to host an event that benefits our immediate neighbors in south Dallas,” said Spectra’s Peter Sullivan, General Manager of Fair Park. “We’re thankful for this opportunity to give back to our community and help where we can.”

Patrons are encouraged to utilize the drive-thru service. Safety precautions have been established to limit any physical interaction with NTFB, Fair Park First, Spectra, and In the City for Good volunteers. While this service is focused on south Dallas residents, it will also be available to community members throughout Dallas County. The public holiday food distribution will take place at the UNT Dallas Campus located at 7300 University Hills Blvd. in Southern Dallas from 9 a.m. to noon. Each family will receive approximately 60 lbs. of fresh groceries at the mobile food distribution, including a Thanksgiving turkey for the first 250 families, thanks to Tom Thumb / Albertsons.

The food distribution is one of more than 50 holiday food distributions supported by the NTFB during the month of November to provide food to the nearly 700,000 people facing hunger across the NTFBs 13-county service territory.
