North Texas Food Bank Receives $10 Million+ Donation From The Perot Family
NORTH TEXAS The North Texas Food Bank just got a lot of help with their efforts to feed the hungry. The food bank received a $10.5 million donation from the Perot family.
A portion of the money is earmarked to support the food banks annual operating expenses, but the majority of the money is going to the Feeding North Texas Foundation which works with a network of partner agencies that help feed the hungry across North Texas.
The pandemic both exposed and amplified food insecurity in our region. So, in response to that the North Texas Food Bank launched the Nourish North Texas Vision. It not only provides food for today but hope for tomorrow to reduce some of the barriers for food access, explained NTFB Chief External Affairs Officer Erica Yaeger. The Perots generous gift of $10.5 million will fund an endowment so we can ensure, that regardless of the economic landscape, that were able to provide access to food for those who need it but its also to help cover the increased costs right now due to the elevated need.

About Nourish North Texas
Nourish North Texas is a comprehensive campaign that significantly expands our ability to provide hungry neighbors with more food for today while providing hope for tomorrow by addressing the root causes of food insecurity. The campaign is grounded in a new strategic plan for how we fight hunger in North Texas.
With a goal of raising $500 million in food and funds by the end of FY23, Nourish North Texas will allow the NTFB to execute its strategic plan funding critical operations and the growth of its Feeding Network of partner agencies more than 200 local food pantries and other organizations across the NTFBs 13-county service area. It will also support new, innovative partnerships and programs that address root causes of hunger and help move families toward long-term food security and economic stability.
The COVID-19 pandemic reversed the last decades progress toward closing the hunger gap. According to Feeding America, 42 million people across the nation including more than 700,000 of our neighbors here in North Texas may face hunger due to the ongoing effects of the pandemic. This figure represents a 55 percent increase in the number of people seeking help from food banks as compared to previous years.

While holiday food drives and other seasonal events are an important role in the food banks outreach efforts, we dont wait for the holidays to help those in need. From two dedicated fields that Farmer Ross cultivates to five gardening plots designated for homeowners to manage, we regularly share fresh produce with the North Texas Food Bank. In addition, canned goods are often the price of admission for Harvest events, and neighborhood scavenger hunts give our kids a chance to have fun while collecting canned goods. We also raise financial contributions through such events as our Run Now, Gobble Later turkey trot event, making the most of every dollar by making our donations on #GivingTuesday to secure matching funds.
Nourish North Texas Needs Your Support

North Texas Food Bank Launches Annual September Peanut Butter Drive To Help Feed Children In North Texas
The Food Bank expands the food drive across all 13 counties it serves to collect 500,000 pounds of peanut butter
Dallas, Sept. 01, 2022 — The North Texas Food Bank announced the launch of the Annual Spread the Hope Peanut Butter Drive today as part of Hunger Action Month. The food drive runs throughout September to collect 500,000 pounds of peanut butter, both physically and online through a monetary donation, to help feed North Texans facing hunger.
This drive brings together cities, neighborhoods, corporations and organizations to collect jars of peanut butter that can then be distributed through the North Texas Food Banks Food 4 Kids backpack program and our feeding network of more than 400 partner agencies and organizations. Peanut butter is a healthy, kid-friendly and shelf-stable item that makes it an important component of nutritional charitable food assistance.
Inflation is hitting families hard, and we have seen a record level increase in the need for nutritious food in the North Texas area over the past several months, said Trisha Cunningham, President and CEO of the North Texas Food Bank. This annual peanut butter drive could not have come at a better time with the impact of rising prices and children starting back to school, and it will help us tremendously in providing for those who need us most right now.
