Nihao Food Truck

Dallas, Nov. 15, 2022 — The North Texas Food Bank hosted a special event at its Perot Family Campus in Plano on Saturday, November 5, 2022, to recognize the Nihao Food Bank Initiatives sponsorship of a food distribution truck through the holidays. Nihao Food Bank Initiative is a Chinese American, volunteer-driven grassroots movement. Its goal is to raise awareness about hunger in North Texas, improve community engagement among Chinese Americans, and direct resources toward NTFB to fight hunger.

Since launching in May of 2021, Nihao has engaged over 475 members and raised more than $183,000, and volunteered 2,100 hours helping at NTFBs warehouse, fundraising, and community events like the recent Dragon Boat Race and Lantern Festival in Irving. In addition, Nihao started a Youth Ambassadors program and now has 96 dedicated high school students who volunteer and fundraise for NTFB.

We are so grateful for the support of organizations like Nihao that recognize the growing issue of hunger and look for innovative ways to contribute to the organizations addressing this complex problem, said NTFB President and CEO Trisha Cunningham. In just a short time they have made a significant impact in our mission of hunger relief and are mentoring the next generation of community leaders through their Youth Ambassadors program.

North Texas Families Spending $325 More Each Month On Food Than Last Year Following Record Inflation Soaring Housing Costs

    By Leah Waters

    5:52 AM on Dec 28, 2022 CST

With nationwide food affordability hitting record highs, the North Texas Food Bank says its network is feeling an unprecedented pinch as more lower- to moderate-income families are leaning on food banks and nonprofits.

Since March, the food bank, which manages a feeding network of over 400 food pantries, says it has seen a 17% increase in meals delivered to providers throughout North Texas.

Since last March, when inflation began hitting families hard, the group has provided an average of 12.3 million meals a month. The nonprofit gave out 10.5 million meals a month during the early stages of COVID-19, through February. Before the pandemic, the number was 7.3 million monthly.

North Texas families are spending about $325 more each month on food than they did at the same time last year, according to NTFB data.

Dallas County is the fifth-highest food insecure county in the country, right here in North Texas. And thats not something were proud of, said Trisha Cunningham, president and CEO of NTFB. What is the most sad thing is that out of 200 Feeding America food banks and service areas, we have the fourth highest number of children who are food insecure, which means they dont know that evening if theyre going to have food on their table when they get home.

    Dallas, Texas, UNITED STATES

Dallas, Nov. 03, 2022 — The North Texas Food Bank announced today that together with its redistribution partners, Crossroads Community Services and Sharing Life, the North Texas feeding network will host more than 50+ holiday food distributions during the month of November to provide food to the nearly 700,000 people facing hunger within its 13-county service territory. This includes more than 250,000 children, or one in every five in our region, giving the NTFB service area the 4th highest level of food-insecure children in the country.

The holiday season can be especially difficult for those who are already struggling to make ends meet each month and with inflated food, gas and housing costs, our neighbors in every zip code are facing increasingly difficult choices every day – deciding whether to purchase groceries or pay for other necessities such as gas, medicine or utilities, said Trisha Cunningham, President and CEO of the North Texas Food Bank. During the holiday season, food doesnt just provide nourishment, it is a way for people to connect, celebrate and spend time with loved ones. So, when it is missing, it leaves a hole bigger than hunger itself. The North Texas Food Bank and our feeding partners dont just want to help provide necessities during the holiday season together were helping people connect with the ones they love.
