The Northeast Iowa Food Bank distributes nutritious food and grocery products to 170 nonprofit organizations and programs that help families and individuals with food assistance.

Founded in 1981 to reduce food waste and meet a need for emergency food in the community, the Northeast Iowa Food Bank provides nutritious food to nonprofit organizations and individuals throughout Northeast Iowa.

Our Mission

The mission of the Northeast Iowa Food Bank is to provide nutritious food and grocery products to non-profit organizations and individuals in Northeast Iowa, while offering hunger education programs to the area and those in need.

The Northeast Iowa Food Bank has five primary programs.

Cedar Valley Food Pantry

Provides emergency and supplemental food to people in need throughout the Cedar Valley.

Food Distribution Program

The Northeast Iowa Food Bank serves approximately 200 agencies in a 16 county service area. On average, we annually distribute over five million pounds of food.

Kids Cafe

In collaboration with the Boys & Girls Club, The Salvation Army, Hoover Middle School, Bunger Middle School and Logan Middle School , EPI/Deery Center, Poyner Elementary School and North Cedar, this program provides an evening meal or snack to children in a safe and friendly setting.

Operation Family Pack

Now operating in 56 locations, this program provides back packs full of food to children in need.

The mission of the Northeast Iowa Food Bank is to provide nutritious food and grocery products to non-profit organizations and individuals in Northeast Iowa, while offering hunger education programs to the area and those in need. The Northeast Iowa Food Bank has the following programs to fight hunger in Northeast Iowa: Food Distribution Kids Cafe Operation Family Pack Elderly Nutrition Boxes Elderly Weekend Bags Program and Cedar Valley Food Pantry. They serve 16 counties in Northeast Iowa, east to the Mississippi River, north to the Minnesota border, and south to Poweshiek County. More than an estimated 35,700 Northeast Iowa residents, including nearly 14,600 children, receive emergency food assistance each year from the Northeast Iowa Food Bank. What We Do

Northeast Iowa Food Bank Donation

Today we serve 16 counties in northeast Iowa through our distribution center in Waterloo. We provide nutritious food to 5,800 different people weekly through a far-reaching network of over 200 food pantries, soup kitchens, schools, churches, and nonprofit groups. In 2015, we distributed 7 million pounds of food to those who are hungry in northeast Iowa.

We are members of Feeding America, a national organization supporting more than 200 food banks across the country, and the largest domestic hunger relief agency in the U.S. We are also members of the Iowa Food Bank Association, an association of the six food banks in Iowa.
