Local Food Bank Gov Cooper Gather Thanksgiving Meals For Those In Need
Governor Roy Cooper was at the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina to put turkeys on pallets so they can be delivered around the state.
RALEIGH, N.C. — As we all get ready to fill our table for Thanksgiving it’s also time to remember those struggling to put food on the table.
Governor Roy Cooper rolled up his sleeves and got into the spirit of giving.
“A lot of families aren’t making the choice of what kind of vegetables or what kind of desserts they’re going to have. They are making the choice between buying gas for the car and buying enough food for home,” he said while helping out at the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina.
Butterball donated all 300 turkeys, each of them between 16 and 20 pounds, and they’ll be delivered to families in need throughout the holiday season a welcome donation as turkey prices rise nearly 20% this year.
About 12% of North Carolinians face food insecurity but this time of year the goal is help as many families as possible.

The mission of the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina: No One Goes Hungry in Central & Eastern North Carolina. Team Will Distribute Turkey To Food Bank Of Central And Eastern North Carolina Helping Hand Mission Inter
RALEIGH, NC – Don Waddell, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team will deliver 1,250 turkey breasts to area families on Tuesday ahead of Thanksgiving. Team staff members, including former Hurricanes forward Shane Willis, will distribute the turkey to Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina, Helping Hand Mission, Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, Raleigh Rescue Mission and Urban Ministries of Wake County from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
“We are excited to continue this important initiative, helping to provide Thanksgiving meals for our community,” said Waddell. “The holidays are a time for coming together, and we are fortunate to be surrounded by so many amazing organizations that help us make a positive impact in the Triangle each year.”
Media are invited to cover the turkey distribution on Tuesday, which will take place as follows:
- 10:00 a.m.: Delivering turkey to Inter-Faith Food Shuttle
- 10:30 a.m.: Delivering turkey at Raleigh Rescue Mission

We are excited to continue this important initiative, helping to provide Thanksgiving meals for our community, said Waddell. The holidays are a time for coming together, and we are fortunate to be surrounded by so many amazing organizations that help us make a positive impact in the Triangle each year.
The Hurricanes have also teamed up with Blue Cross and Blue Shield for the second consecutive year to provide turkeys through the NHL’s Assist for Hunger program. Every Hurricane assists this season, Blue Cross contributes to ending childhood hunger in our community.
This marks the 12th year of the Hurricanes Thanksgiving partnership with Helping Hand Mission, fifth with Raleigh Rescue Mission, fourth with Urban Ministries of Wake County and Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, and second with the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina. Turkey deliveries have led to thousands of donations to local nonprofits in support of our community and help provide full meals at Thanksgiving.
In addition to delivering turkey, the Hurricanes also held a food drive earlier this month to help provide meals for those in need this holiday season. Through the drive, the Hurricanes collected over 1,200 non-perishable items, which were donated to Inter-Faith Food Shuttle and Urban Ministries of Wake County.
