Mid-South Food Bank expects same heightened need after federal unemployment benefits end

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – November 1 marks the beginning of the annual Action News 5 Holiday Food Drive benefitting the Mid-South Food Bank.

The food bank your needs help making sure families in need get enough food this holiday season.

People want to see turkeys, they want to see stuffing, dressing, or whatever your preference may be. They want to see that during the holidays and its our goal to provide those things to our community, said Nicole Willis, who is the marketing and communications manager for the Mid-South Food Bank.

Each year, the Mid-South steps up to help families in need, and were hoping 2022 is no different.

Willis says that the economy has slightly scaled back on giving, but shes confident the wonderful community she serves will step up.

Whether its a one-time donation, a monthly donation, or a once-a-year donation during the holidays, people here give back, Willis said. We are able to reap the benefits of living in this wonderful community that gives us what we need to make sure we can help others in need.

Every dollar donated to The Mid-South Food Bank provides three meals, so just $10 can provide a food-insecure family with food for an entire month.

We are able to feed so many families for just a dollar. So, every cent that gets donated will go to benefit everybody that is in the 31 counties we service, Willis said.
