Las Vegas Food Bank Donations

How Can I Help Three Square The Most

Las Vegas Aviators, Southern Nevada food bank host Cereal Drive

Monetary donations provide the greatest benefit we have buying power that allows us to do more with $1 than you might when you go to the store to purchase canned goods for a food drive. For every $1 donated, Three Square is able to distribute three meals.

Even if you have committed to holding a food drive, please consider the option of adding a fund drive or virtual food drive. Many individuals would rather write a tax-deductible check or make a donation online rather than picking up extra food at the grocery store for the food drive.

Three Square Food Bank has announced the following events with local businesses to continue its fight against food insecurity this September, which has been proclaimed Hunger Action Month by Governor Steve Sisolak.

Food Banks Hungry For Donations As Demand Rises

LAS VEGAS Organizing cereal letters in a bowl of milk, or picking out the bran flakes until only the marshmallows remain. These are just some of the childhood memories associated with breakfast cereal that Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada are hoping to recreate for kids.

On Thursday, the local non-profit is hosting a Cereal Drive with the Las Vegas Aviators during Game 3 of the six-game series against the Sugar Land Space Cowboys at the Las Vegas Ballpark. They’re asking fans to bring a box of cereal to donate to the Catholic Charities food pantry, and five dollars of every ticket sale goes to Catholic Charities programs that serve an average of 4,000 people daily.

Cereal is kind of a catch-all,” said Leslie Carmine, Media & Community Relations Director, Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada. “You get all those good nutrients. It can be fun. Some of my most fond memories from childhood is having cereal, so we want to be able to give that to families that are struggling, and that are coming in for help. If we can provide some of those essentials, it really does help them feel like its going to be OK.

On Thursday morning, local non-profit Chefs for Kids along with the Four Season Hotel Las Vegas cooked and served breakfast to nearly 500 CCSD students and teachers as part of their Free Healthy Breakfast event at Reynaldo Martinez Elementary School in North Las Vegas.

About Three Square Food Bank

Three Square is Southern Nevadas only food bank and largest hunger relief organization, serving Las Vegas and all of Clark, Lincoln, Esmeralda and Nye counties. Since opening in 2007, Three Square has provided more than 385 million pounds of food to hundreds of thousands of people in need and earned a reputation as one of the most efficient and effective food banks in the country. When the COVID-19 pandemic struck, Three Square immediately implemented a disaster response plan to answer sudden school and business closures, drastic declines in retail food donations, social distancing limitations on volunteer efforts, reduced on-site staff support, and the need for low-contact food distributions. Within days, Three Square had increased food distribution by 250,000 meals a week and increased the capacity of its Call Center to refer Southern Nevadans to available food resources, social services, and unemployment benefits. While Three Squares COVID-19 relief efforts have superseded regular programs and operations for the foreseeable future, it is more committed than ever to its mission of providing wholesome food to hungry people, while passionately pursuing a hunger-free community. Three Square is a member of the Feeding America network of food banks. If you or someone you know needs food assistance, or wants to learn more about Three Squares vision of a community where no one is hungry, please connect at threesquare.org, , Instagram and .

The food pantry serves thousands of people across the valley and the demand keeps growing.

Larry Scott is the CEO at Three Square and tells 8 News Now in order for the food bank to keep the more than 100,000 people a year fed, donations need to keep coming.

Due to inflation, Scott also added that more people are in need of food resources this time of year.

Whenever there is some type of impact, on the economy, we absolutely always see a growth in the number of food insecurity, he said. We are always in need of meat proteins, and produce and dairy. Those are three principal items every household needs.
