The Emergency Food Assistance Program
TEFAP is managed by CAP food banks in Lewiston and Coeur dAlene and supplies USDA commodities to food pantries in all the counties in northern Idaho. Food banks and pantries in northern Idaho may become emergency feeding organizations that are eligible to receive TEFAP commodities for distribution in their local communities.
Who Can Use Food Banks
Many food banks and food pantries are locally run, with others managed at the state or federal level. Qualification to receive nutrition assistance from food programs depends on the type.
There are different qualifying requirements, but many food banks have none. Just show up during their days and times of operation, and they will help if they are able.

What Is A Food Bank

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program is a federally run program that helps obtain badly needed food for low-income people and families. SNAP program is also known as Food Stamp.
SNAP benefits in Nez Perce supplied approximately 40 million Americans in 2018. It is the most extensive nutrition program administered by Food and Nutrition Service and is a vital component of the social safety net for low-income Americans.
In 2017, roughly 9.2% of American households obtained SNAP benefits, with about 16.7% of all children living in homes benefiting.

Ten Organizations In North And North Central Idaho Selected To Receive 2022 Grants From Idaho Food Bank Fund
LEWISTON – The Idaho Food Bank Fund recently announced that 47 organizations across the state will receive 2022 grants targeted to support nonprofits that provide nutrition awareness, promote healthy eating and relieve hunger.
The grants, which total $233,900, were specifically allocated to help recipients operate programs, purchase food, expand capacity , and to promote or provide nutrition education for underserved and marginalized Idahoans.
In North and North Central Idaho, ten organizations were given grants.
