Yes! We do our best to meet the needs of any client with religious or cultural dietary restrictions through our hamper programs. Another example is our close working relationship with the Islamic Family & Social Services Association . We provide relevant dry goods and IFSSA provides halal meats. We try to work collaboratively with as many groups as possible to provide food to people who are hungry in our community.
Benefits To Our Food Industry Partners
- All businesses are eligible for a tax deduction for donations of product to the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley. Businesses can deduct from their taxes an amount equal to the cost of the donated items plus one-half their fair market value, or two-thirds the cost, whichever is less. Why Should I Donate
500,000 people in Eastern Massachusetts struggle with food insecurity. Thats 1 in 9 members of our community. And yet every day, businesses in Massachusetts throw away thousands of pounds of healthy, edible food.
Additionally, donating your excess food rather than sending it to compost or landfill can save you waste-hauling costs and you may be eligible for tax incentives.

Can I Get An In
Donations of food from individuals may receive a tax receipt, if requested at the time of donation and if Edmonton Gleaners Association is provided with a third-party invoice, receipt, qualified appraisal, or similar documentation declaring the fair market value of the donated item in addition to their full name and mailing address. The donor can only make their donation at the main warehouse . Tax receipts for gift-in-kind donations will be issued within 60 days of receipt of the item and appropriate documentation.
Donations of food from corporations will receive a letter confirming receipt and description of the item, but not a charitable tax receipt. It is Edmonton Gleaners Associationâs understanding that companies may use this letter as documentation to write off the cost or a percentage of the cost of the product according to CRA policies and do not require an official charitable tax receipt to do so. The corporate donor is responsible to ask at the time of donation for the detailed letter which will be issued within 60 days of receipt of the goods.
How Does It Work
We make food donation easy. Our Operations Director will work with you to establish a convenient schedule for pick-up of your excess food based on the amounts available, your storage capacity, and our vehicle availability. Excess food should be stored in a safe manner.
When our drivers arrive, they will place that food in boxes provided by Food For Free and transport them in refrigerated trucks to our own cooler and freezer storage or directly to one of our recipient agencies.We track all donations, both in and out, for safe record keeping and by request can provide you with how much food your organization has donated by weight.

Home-Prepared Foods
DONATED FOOD DISTRIBUTING ORGANIZATIONS are not allowed to accept or serve most types of homeprepared foods. However, homemade baked goods that do not need refrigeration to remain safe may be received from DONORS.
Commercially Packaged Foods Not Needing Refrigeration
The donation of commercially canned, boxed, and otherwise packaged foods is encouraged.
Fresh Produce Donations
Food donations may include fresh produce, including home-grown fruits and vegetables. Fresh produce should be protected from contamination and receive final preparation, such as washing and cutting, in a DONOR KITCHEN or licensed kitchen.
Food Prepared in a DONOR KITCHEN
Except for baked goods , DONATED FOOD DISTRIBUTING ORGANIZATIONS may not accept foods prepared in a home kitchen. Instead, foods for donation should be prepared in either a DONOR KITCHEN or a commercial food establishment, such as a restaurant.
A DONOR KITCHEN is a publicly available kitchen in a faith-based organization, community center, or other site. The DONOR KITCHEN does not need to have a health permit, but must have basic facilities such as adequate handwashing, dishwashing, refrigeration, and cooking equipment. It must have a safe water supply, be protected from weather and animals, and be cleaned before food preparation starts.

What Can I Donate
We accept any non-plated food that has been handled in accordance with standard food-safety regulations this can include grocery items, produce, wrapped sandwiches, salads, or prepared food that has been safely brought down to temperature . Please do not donate food that you would not be willing to serve your clients.
We accept both frozen prepared food as well as fresh. Fresh food must be donated within 7 days of preparation. Food must be labeled with either preparation date or expiration/use by date.
Previously prepared foods may be frozen for preservation. Freezing process must adhere to ServSafe® guidelines. Prepared food donations may be packaged in a variety of containers and should be made of food grade/food safe materials. Please use recyclable consumables where possible. All prepared food donations must be labeled with the donor organization name, date prepared, contents , and ingredients and/or potential allergens.

Local corporate food donors provide over 20% of food donations to Second Harvest.
Donating food can be a very effective and cost-efficient solution to inventory surpluses, space and storage limitations, and waste disposal costs. Food donations are tax-deductible and donors are protected from liability through the Good Samaritan Law.
Second Harvest can accept fresh produce, refrigerated items, frozen foods including meats, bakery items, personal care products and bulk packaged products, as well as dry canned goods.

Food Industry Partnerships To Fight Hunger
Donations from food industry manufacturers and distributors are an important part of our hunger-fighting efforts. The manufacturers we work with produce food products and distributors store and transport food from manufacturers to stores and restaurants. Whether donated products are first-run, surplus or perishable, we work together to put this food to good use.
Second Harvest Heartland relies on food industry donations to end hunger in our communities. In 2021, more than 14 million meals were provided to our network from the 17 million pounds of food we received from manufacturers and distributors. Donations like these also help alleviate food waste, saving millions of pounds of food from ending up in landfills.

Food Bank And Food Pantry Or Donated Food Distributing Organization Rules:
- Follow food safety guidelines for Washington State. Like cold holding, handwashing, bare hand contact, etc.
- All food must be donated to people in need.
- Food that needs refrigeration must be made in a donor kitchenlike a restaurant, church, school kitchen, etc.and not a residential home.
- Must distribute prepared food within 8 hours of preparation.
- You can accept or give out:
- Extra from food establishments.
- Commercially packaged and frozen food.
- Food properly handled, stored and prepared in a donor kitchen.
- Food that doesnt need temperature control like uncooked rice, canned soup and boxed cereal.

North Country Food Bank
Despite being headquartered in Minnesota, the North Country Food Bank doesnt serve just one state. It benefits a whole region, including Minnesota and part of North Dakota. This region includes 21 counties. This foodbank partners with more than 230 agencies and other food relief programs to distribute more than 7.4 million pounds of food a year. It doesnt only accept food donations from individuals but also utilizes surplus food coming from farms, grocery stores, and manufacturers.

They products such as those with packaging errors, short-dated food, seasonal stock, manufacturing errors, damages, etc., including meat, fish, eggs and dairy products fruit and vegetables chilled food, such as ready meals or drinks frozen food, or chilled food that has been blast frozen ambient goods, such as pasta, tins and cereals and bakery. Yes, Edmonton Gleaners Association, more commonly known as Edmontonâs Food Bank, is a registered charity with Revenue Canada â charitable number 129 185 310 RR0001.
Edmonton Gleaners Association will generally provide an automatic tax receipt on the condition that the donorâs full name and mailing address are provided for monetary donations of $10 or more. On occasion, during specific campaigns, and clearly indicated on correspondence, Edmonton Gleaners Association reserves the right to ask for a minimum monetary donation of $20 or more to receive an automatic tax receipt on the condition that a full name and mailing address are provided .

Manufacturers and distribution centers build relationships with Second Harvest Heartland or work through Feeding America to donate product that may have a short remaining shelf life or is mislabeled. Donations come from local organizations and from across the country enable by Feeding Americas donation platformmost in truckload quantities. Some donations arrive needing to be repacked into manageable quantities for distribution to food shelves and other meal programs.
Second Harvest Heartlands volunteer center includes two clean rooms, which enable us to receive bulk donations of ready-to-eat productssuch as cereal, meat and poultrythat can then be repacked to consumable sizes.
Central Texas Food Bank
The Central Texas Food Bank supplies food in 21 counties in Texas, distributing over 3.1 million pounds of food to around 16,000 people each month.
