Volunteering At The Greater Boston Food Bank
Our Guiding Principle, Be thoughtful and Kind, guides our Colleagues in every decision they make, inside and outside our office doors. Our NEXDINE Foundation Helping Hands Committee organized a volunteering event at the Greater Boston Food Bank. Together they sorted 10,080 pounds of food during our volunteer session. Our team’s efforts made 8,400 meals possible for many struggling families in the Boston area. To put the number in perspective, 4,368 meals feed a family of 4 for one year! This event is just one example of how our Guiding Principles drive and reflect our Amazing Culture here at NEXDINE Hospitality.
Thank you volunteers and organizers!

Hundreds of volunteers filled the Reggie Lewis Center and came together on Monday to commemorate Sept. 11 in a way that creates change.
We have to look at something that causes grief and make it create love and support, volunteer Richard Ernesti said.

Food insecurity is at an all-time high with the aftershock of the pandemic and the impact of inflation, said Catherine Lynn, of the Greater Boston Food Bank.
The volunteers will spend all day packing 100,000 meals that will be distributed to Greater Boston Food Bank’s partners.
Members took moments to reflect on what that day 21 years ago meant to them.
I was living in NYC. I saw the first plane hit the tower. It impacted me. I lost friends, and I want to give back to the community, Ernesti said.
Other volunteers shared why they got invovled.
I think it’s a great way to commemorate 9/11 and the lives that have been lost and the sacrifice and the duty that so many people in our country have given, volunteer Jessica French said.

Hundreds Of Volunteers Package Meals For Greater Boston Food Bank During 9/11 Day Of Service
BOSTON — An incredible outpouring of love was on display at the Reggie Lewis Center in Roxbury Monday as more than 500 volunteers spent the day measuring, pouring, bagging, and boxing up meals for the Greater Boston Food Bank.
It was all part of Boston’s pledge to “Do Good” on the 9/11 National Day of Service.
With the help of Meals of Hope and Boston Cares, company volunteers are turning tragedy into a day of giving by creating packets of oatmeal to be distributed to families in great need of a healthy meal.
“We still need to do the work and take care of the people who are still here in honor of the people who sacrificed their lives,” said Aprylle Wallace of Greater Boston Food Bank.
Doug Clark took a day off of work from Biogen to volunteer. “I’m actually a veteran so 9/11 impacted me and my family and my community significantly so I like to give back every year,” Clark said.
There was singing, followed by a moment of silence for those who lost their lives on 9/11 and in the years that followed.
More than 100,000 packages will be distributed to more than 600 nonprofits that the Greater Boston Food Bank works with across the state.
With the holidays just months away, this food couldn’t come at a more critical time.
“The last 28 months shows that now one in three people in eastern Massachusetts are food insecure and that’s double of what it was before so everything counts,” Wallace said.

Volunteering With Community Impact At The Greater Boston Food Bankby: Amy Bucher
Its always a rewarding experience to interact with our Junior League partners in the community. I recently discovered a great way to volunteer outside of my own placement with the Community Impact Council. This council provides members volunteer opportunities with numerous organizations at a wide range of non-profit events in the Boston area.
Community partners include: Cradles, Room to Grow, March of Dimes, The Breast Cancer Foundation, The Womens Lunch Place, Dress for Success and Strong Women, Strong Girls and many others.
One of those many others is the Greater Boston Food Bank, where I joined a group of council members for an afternoon shift. The size of the building should be an indication of the impact the food bank has not only in Massachusetts but also across the US, providing food items to areas impacted by the recent hurricanes.
During our shift, we learned how to sort out donated items and alongside several other volunteer groups, sorted through 7,705 pounds of donated food items. This is the equivalent of 5,550 meals and it only took three hours of my Saturday.
Seeing the pallets of sorted boxes and hearing these final statistics re-energized me and reaffirmed how important it is to take the time our of our busy schedules to volunteer.
Thank you to the Community Impact Council for providing events like this it may just become my new Saturday trend.
