How To Donate Food To A Food Bank This Thanksgiving
In the coming weeks, families across the country will come together and enjoy a Thanksgiving meal. For many of us, Thanksgiving wouldnt be complete without turkey and table full of stuffing, mashed potatoes and other festive sides. But nearly 34 million people faced hunger in 2021. And when you dont have the food you need to thrive, celebrating the holidays can be tough.
If you want to get into the spirit of service for Thanksgiving, donating food to your local food bank is a great way to help your neighbors get food on the table and allow them to create meaningful holiday memories.
Heres how you can help a family put a holiday meal on the table this Thanksgiving:
Where To Take Your Food:
- Non perishables can be dropped off in any participating grocery store bin.
- Fresh food can be dropped off at our location at 54 Ainslie Street South, Cambridge between Monday- Tuesday 12:00 p.m.-4:30 p.m. Wednesday-Friday 9:00 a.m.- 4:30 p.m.Please call to arrange drop off or pick up of large donations: x105.
- As a charity, we can offer donation receipts if you bring a purchase receipt.

Food Donations From Individuals
While we appreciate the support we received from food drives over the years, weve had issues with the varying levels of food quality through third-party food drives. On average, up to 30% of the food we receive ends up being SPOILED, DAMAGED, or UNSAFE to eat.
After much consideration, we have decided to move away from food drives as of January 2022.

Although food is our number one priority, we take non-food related items and gifts-in-kind on a case-by-case basis.

Pet Food
Whether they talk with their beaks or walk on four feet, our pets are cherished parts of our family and they need just as much help, love and nutrition as we do. Help feed furry family members by donating unopened pet food and treats.
Baby items
Our baby hampers are provided to our youngest clients, newborns and infants up to 12 months old. We accept donations of baby food , infant formula , and diapers . We accept unopened and opened packages of diapers.
Birthday Party Kits
The birthday room is a special place at the Food Bank. Birthday party kits are available for children aged one to 12, who might not otherwise enjoy the luxury of a birthday party. We accept donations of bags, cards, party supplies, books, art and school supplies, games, toys, cakes mixes, icing, balloons and candles.

Looking For Other More Non
Freedges are public refrigerators that provide a place for people to donate, share, and obtain food within the community. Foods that can be donated include fresh produce, prepackaged baked and dry foods, commercially packaged foods, dairy products, and labeled home-cooked meals. All home-cooked meals must be labeled with date of donation, food description, and list of allergens. Visit Find a Freedge, to utilize the interactive map to locate a community fridge near you.
Little Free Pantries are small pantries that provide a space for people to donate what they can and take what they need. It is a great place to donate small amounts of nonperishable foods and personal care products to people in your community. Food not Bombs is a food rescue organization aimed to decrease hunger through the distribution of vegan and vegetarian meals to communities in need. Visit here to locate and donate to a Food not Bombs location near you.
How To Drop Off Your Food Donations
Make sure you know the business hours before you go, and give them a call to confirm your visit .
It would be best not to stuff your automobile to the gills with food. Avoid making repeated journeys by bringing a buddy or two along to help carry some of the weight. Please check the foods condition before donating it.
Please let the food bank know you are dropping off a contribution by checking in at the front desk when you arrive. Dont just drop off your food contributions to the food bank hang around and get a feel for what theyre all about. There is a possibility that you may acquire knowledge about local food insecurity and hunger. Ask if there is any way you may contribute as a virtual volunteer if you are unable to help out at the food bank physically.
Your contribution will now be sorted and stored until the community needs it. If you want to make the most of your time at the food bank, recruiting some assistance from your pals is a great plan. Its a terrific way to get some exercise when you dont have much time. Finally, remember to enjoy yourself throughout your time of service. Monster Food Bank Drop Off By Home Services Giant Neighbourly In Brackley
The home services organisation, Neighbourly has made a huge food donation to the Brackley Food Bank after its push for associates to donate food
The based company launched an initiative this November, encouraging their associates to donate tinned soup, biscuits, pasta and cereal to Food Bank, pledging that it would match all donations by the end of the month.
Neighbourly is one of Britains largest home services organisations and home to six established brands including Bright and Beautiful, Countrywide Grounds Maintenance, Drain Doctor, Dream Doors, Greensleeves, and Pimlico Plumbers. Its donation was the largest ever amount of food donated to a nearby food bank to help local residents in need during the festive season.
The initiative follows the success of food donations last year, which was enough to make hundreds of meals from, although this time, the donations total was more.

Why Donate To Food Banks Specifically
âFood banks generally are very efficient in their logistics processes, affording the food industry a one-stop place for donations that they can trust will be handled with best-in-class food safety considerations,â says Michael Guerra, chief development officer for the San Antonio Food Bank in Texas. âFood banks also work to equitably distribute donated food to local nonprofits that have food as a part of their missionâfood pantries, shelters, soup kitchens, etc.â And, he adds, food banks are often the primary organization in a community that aims at minimizing food insecurity among low-income households and under-resourced households in that community.
In addition to providing food, Guerra says most food banks also provide nutritional education and access to public safety programs such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program .

Gardner Cac Holiday Toys
Every year, the Gardner Community Action Commission collects nonperishable foods, childrens toys, and winter clothes to give to those in need.
The nonprofit will stop accepting newborn to 12-year-old childrens toys, stocking stuffer items, coloring books and crayons, kids and young adult books on Monday, Dec. 12. Along with toys, the CAC is making holiday food baskets for families struggling to afford the increasing prices of groceries. Canned green beans, cranberry sauce, and gravy are just a couple of items that the organization is asking for the holiday food baskets.

Large-scale food donations are a critical part of our mission to fight hunger in the Mahoning Valley. While community food drives and individual food donations are extremely valuable, the scale of our work also requires the support of donors in the manufacturing, warehouse/logistics, produce/agriculture and food services industries. Large-scale food donors include manufacturers, distributors, growers, schools and institutions.
