“I Support the 1%” is a 501 non-profit organization comprised of a group of concerned citizens who have become aware of the economic hardships suffered by many of the military members stationed in our area.

Because they are called to leave home at a moment’s notice, many find their jobs taken by others when they return. Many have a hard time finding gainful employment due to prejudice against their military requirements and/or the poor economic reality of this area.

Many are homeless and are tortured by memories of the battles they were in, and have difficulty readjusting to civilian life. Many find it difficult to reconcile their dual existence: military at times, civilian at times.

Because of this, we have banded together to provide relief to our local active duty and veteran members among us.

The goal of “I Support the 1%” is simple. We aim to establish a funding source to support a year-round food pantry just for military personnel.

We welcome your support and help. Our returning Veterans and Active Duty Personnel deserve only the best from the country they have sworn to protect.

The Student Food Pantry Is Offering Expanded Services

Available now through the end of the winter 2022 semester:

• Family Food Box with gift cards
• We are adding store gift cards to our Family Food boxes! Students will be able to select a retailer gift card from a list of options these cards will help students purchase food items we cannot provide, such as milk, bread, fresh produce, meat, etc. .

All students seeking Pantry services must schedule a time to pick up their items through Pioneer Connect. Students without a reservation will be asked to complete one before receiving services.

You will have to show a picture ID to receive services.

Donations are accepted at A003 during office hours. Non-perishable, non-expired food, gift cards to local grocery stores, or monetary donations are accepted. Checks may be made payable to Delta College with “Student Food Pantry” in the memo line. Delta employees may sign up for automatic payroll deduction. Donations are tax-deductible and a receipt will be issued.

How to Organize a Mobile Food Pantry

• Find a location for distribution. This may be the parking lot of your agency, a school, or other easily accessible location within the community.
• Make sure you have permission first!
• Schedule a day and time for delivery with the Food Bank.
• Announce the time of distribution to your clients and others in the neighborhood who are in need.
• On the day of distribution, have volunteers on-site to help distribute food and record who received it.
• After the food is distributed, dispose of all trash and return pallets and unused boxes to trailer bays.

Each head of household must complete and sign and intake form. During the one-on-one interview with the social services ministry coordinator, solutions to the underlying cause of the crisis are addressed. It is our goal to achieve long term solutions to problems in order to enhance family stability.

Drive-thru pantries are open for anyone who needs help getting food. There are no eligibility criteria. Visitors do not need to provide any identification or income statements.

Those pantries are feeling the same pinch to their funds, buying thousands of dollars worth of food to giveaway every week.

We see little kids in the car that said mommy can I, can I grab that bag of snacks right now and start eating it? Because Im hungry, said Terry Rock, Ecumenical Food Pantry manager.

The need for food is back up to pandemic levels.

We get stories every, every week. Thank god you guys are here. We havent had any food in the house for two days, Rock said.

The Ecumenical Food Pantry is struggling to keep up.

Were seeing a lot of new people coming through. You know, youre out here every week you get to know the people that are coming in. But were seeing a lot of new people coming through. And its been a challenge for us for the amount of food that we, we do try to put in the box, Rock said.

Rock is the manager of the food pantry at Saginaws First Presbyterian Church.

To receive food from the pantry, students must present their Delta student ID card. Students will also be required to complete an intake form. The Food Pantry does not collect personal information. All information provided is kept confidential.

The maximum amount of food a student can receive in a one-month period is a total of ten bags .

How Do Drive

There are lot of volunteers help at Drive-thru food pantries. While not all drive-thru pantries operate in the same way, here�s how most work:

Visitors pull up to the pantry in their car and are usually guided into a clearly marked queue. As people move through the pantry, staff will continue to move the cars forward to get everyone through as quickly and safely as possible.
