Mobile Food Pantry Visits Martinsburg To Help Local Residents Meet Their Needs
It is not easy feeding four people, including her husband, elderly mother and 14-year-old granddaughter, on a fixed income, and the bills always come first, she said.
Usually at the end of the month, you get awful low, so we eat what we can and are grateful, she said. I fixed 2 pounds of beans that I got from a church. Sometimes, my granddaughter doesnt like what we have, but you know how teenagers are.
Cole, 64, also has a chronic disease, but she doesnt believe in complaining, and instead keeps forging ahead for her familys sake.
I always gave to people when I could, and its nice to get some help now when we need it, she said.
Recent data shows she is not alone.
That need was demonstrated Wednesday, when people lined up to receive food provided by the Mountaineer Food Bankss mobile food pantry.
The event was held at the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources facility off Mid-Atlantic Parkway, where employees spent hours getting ready for the event.
The facilitys large parking lot offered plenty of space for several tents stocked with canned foods and fresh vegetables. A refrigerated trailer was used to distribute dairy and meat products, while state employees helped direct traffic, collect registration paperwork and distribute food.
Vehicles drove through the line, but some people arrived on foot bringing containers to carry the food they received during the two-hour distribution event.

What Is The Difference Between A Food Bank And A Food Pantry
Independent community food pantries are self-governing and usually distribute food to their clients on a once-a-month basis. A food bank is the storehouse for millions of pounds of food and other products that go out to the community. A food pantry functions as the arms that reach out to that community directly.

Wonderful bookstore! Friendly staff. They helped us with restaurant recommendations and even gave us a map. They had an old copy of Encyclopedia Brown that I used to read when I was young.

This is a great unique book store with friendly, helpful staff and reasonable prices. A large collection of books can be found in a maze of hallways and a bank vault room. Our family loves it!

One of the last remaining used book stores. Privately owned by a nice family. They offer teacher discounts. There are chairs in every section for comfortable browsing. Cant find what youre looking for? Theyll find it for you. Plan on an hour plus if youre a reading enthusiast.
Veronica E.
I absolutely adore this business and its treasure trove of literary offerings. Its a pleasure to make the acquaintance of the enormously kind folks who work there: a wonderful selection and very reasonable prices. The old bank building itself is remarkable to see. In closing, five stars dont seem fair when reviewing this establishment. They deserve many more.

I promised this money in my State of the State address two years ago and included it in my budget again this year, Justice said during the presentation.
This will be the third year that well be able to donate these funds. As long as Im here, Im going to put this in my budget. We may try in every way to increase it. I know a lot of people step up and make all kinds of donations and everything, but at the end of the day, we dont need people hungry in West Virginia. I mean that that is so terrible. Its off the charts.
