The Los Angeles Regional Food Banks Mobile Food Pantry Visits Underserved Communities To Distribute Nutritious Food For Our Neighbors In Need
Have food, will travel.
There are 2 million people facing food insecurity in Los Angeles County, and many of them live in food deserts or do not have access to a food pantry.
The Los Angeles Regional Food Banks Mobile Food Pantry Program is on the front lines of hunger relief, distributing directly to clients who have unreliable or insufficient access to adequate food. It is an invaluable resource, particularly in low-income communities without reasonable access to a traditional food pantry, as well as on college campuses where hunger among students is a growing problem.
The Mobile Food Pantry Redirects Food Away From Landfills and Delivers it to Communities in Need Before Nutritious Items go to Waste
With the ability to travel, the MFP can address food insecurity where it hurts the most while finding homes for fresh, perishable food items before they go to waste. In 2021, our MFP traveled to 251 sites throughout LA County. Volunteers and Food Bank staff work together to distribute produce, grains, bread, meat, dairy and other nutritious items directly to our neighbors.
If you are interested in learning more about the Mobile Food Pantry Program or would like to volunteer at a distribution, please contact Hilda Ayala, Programs Director.
