DonationsThe food pantry relies on donations from the body of WPBC and the community. Those willing to help can add a food pantry item to their shopping list and pick it up each time they shop for themselves. ServeThere are many opportunities for church members to serve in the food pantry. During pantry hours, roles include: greeters, computer info input, shopper escorts, and stockers. Serve monthly, weekly, or as your schedule permits. We also have people who serve on the Mercy prayer team and pray weekly for prayer requests submitted by pantry neighbors and volunteers. Grant Helping Tennessee Food Banks Expand Access To Emergency Food
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. $1 million has been granted to the Tennessee Department of Agriculture to help improve the reach and resiliency of the states Emergency Food Assistance Program.
TEFAP is a federal program that supplements the diets of low-income Americans by providing them with free emergency food.
We are committed to participating in work that supplies healthy food to all Tennesseans, Agriculture Commissioner Charlie Hatcher, D.V.M. said. A grant this size will make an enormous impact for Tennessees rural areas, benefitting populations who are underserved and the farmers who contribute to the safest, most nutritious food system in the world.
Through this grant, Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee will purchase equipment and support renovations at local distribution sites. In addition, the Chattanooga Area Food Bank and the Mid-South Food Bank will expand mobile pantries.
Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee will use the funds to increase distributions and establish new distribution sites in underserved areas. Finally, Second Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Tennessee will conduct a needs assessment to better understand its current reach. They will also upgrade their coolers and freezers at distribution sites.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. The holidays are fast approaching. As they get closer, it can seem like the price of food is just getting higher. Even though the rate of inflation has slowed down, the price of common grocery items is still tightening family budgets across East Tennessee.
There are many food pantries that can help. Churches can community organizations also commonly run food pantries, helping people get groceries when they need them. People can ask leaders of the organizations to learn more if any food is available.
There are also some large community organizations that help families find food. People can reach out to them as well. Some of those organizations are listed below.
Knox Area Rescue Ministries
KARM is hosting its annual Thanksgiving lunch on Thursday, Nov. 24. Guests and those living on the streets can receive a delicious lunch prepared especially for them. More than 300 men and women are expected to eat at one of three seatings: 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

Did you know that in Knox County alone, the poverty rate is 14.3%, which impacts a staggering 60,730 people?
Did you know that most people in our area are part of the working poor? These are people who, although employed, struggle to make ends meet on a day to day basis. They can be anyone: our neighbor, our co-worker, the person we sit next to in worship.
Living out of our new sense of mission with a focus on service, we have felt Gods call to develop a community food pantry located at Faith Lutheran Church supported by our area churches and community groups.
The Shepherd of Hope Food Pantry seeks to provide daily bread to equip people for life in Jesus name. Daily bread carries all types of meaning: physical nourishment, spiritual guidance and community.
We rely on you, our brothers and sisters in Christ, to help stock our pantry full so we can begin to care for our neighbors. Below is a full list of the items we regularly stock in the pantry. Monetary donations are always welcome! You can place your donations on the Food Pantry table located in the Narthex. For large food donations, please contact Jan Darnell in advance to help us plan to have volunteers to assist you.

Second Harvest Food Bank To Host Food Distribution Event
The food box will include enough food to feed a household of four for approximately five days.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Second Harvest Food Bank will host an onsite food distribution next week. The food giveaway will be on Thursday, March 10 from 10 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee, 136 Harvest Lane, Maryville 37801.
Elaine Streno, Executive Director said, It is our turn to host! Although we do not usually operate as a pantry site, there was such a positive response to our last distribution that we want to invite the community to a third drive-thru distribution at our warehouse.
The event will be free to the public regardless of which county you live in. The food box will include enough food to feed a household of four for approximately five days. The food to be distributed includes canned salmon, chicken chili, various soups, peanut butter, canned vegetables, spaghetti sauce, pasta and juice.
