Thankful For Our Partners

Mobile food pantry helps GR families make ends meet

Were proud to partner with numerous organizations throughout West Michigan to help serve our clients needs.

The Downtown Food Pantry is a member of the Access of West Michigan pantry network, a food referral system of 75 pantries designed to respond to those in need of food assistance. We also receive assistance from Feeding America as well as donations from Westminster members.

We are grateful that while the Downtown Food Pantry ministry is carried out at Westminster Presbyterian, it functions with an ecumenical board of representatives from First United Methodist, Fountain Street, LaGrave Christian Reformed, St. Andrews and St. Marks churches. Without this collaboration, the Downtown Food Pantry could not do the work it is doing.

We are also very thankful for our community partners at SpartanNash, Meijer, Access West Michigan and Feeding America of West Michigan.

We also partner with Mercy Health and The Grand Rapids Red Project to provide food services to People Living With HIV/AIDS in a ten-county area of West Michigan. Each month, we serve approximately 35 individuals struggling to live with HIV/AIDS in a confidential and caring manner with food bank services designed to meet their special dietary needs. For more information, you may contact the Downtown Food Pantry at .

What Is The Difference Between A Food Bank And A Food Pantry

Independent community food pantries are self-governing and usually distribute food to their clients on a once-a-month basis. A food bank is the storehouse for millions of pounds of food and other products that go out to the community. A food pantry functions as the arms that reach out to that community directly.
