When Is Empty Bowls
After a two-year pandemic hiatus, we are excited to announce a new location and time for our 2022 Empty Bowls event! Empty Bowls Baton Rouge will be held Saturday, September 24, 2022, from 5 pm to 7:30 pm at the Baton Rouge Gallery, 1515 Dalrymple Drive. Tickets for this years event will be $22 in celebration of Empty Bowls returning in 2022. Each $22 ticket includes your choice of bowl, a meal, live music, and festivities for your family. Kids 12 and under eat free.

Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank Receives 40
BATON ROUGE – A local food bank received a massive donation of fresh and shelf-stable goods to help it keep up with unprecedented demand after a WBRZ report highlighting its needs gained traction.
The Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank supplies goods to more than 100 food banks in 11 other parishes and has been an available resource for more than 35 years. As the need for food increased to an unprecedented 35-50% above pre-pandemic levels, the food bank became strapped for ways to help its communities.
On Aug. 24, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints delivered 40 tons of food to the GBRFB, including 20 tons of fresh meat and 20 tons of shelved goods.

Volunteer With The Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank
We couldnt do what we do without so many of our wonderful volunteers. Put simply, WE NEED YOU!
On a daily basis, our volunteers work in our warehouse sorting food donations and assembling food boxes that will be distributed to the community. Last year, we distributed over 9 million meals in our 11-parish service area. This year, our goal is to distribute 11 million meals. You can easily sign up to volunteer by going to our Volunteer Registration page.
Volunteers can help sort and package food, as well as help with upcoming events like mobile pantries, conventions, and various others.
Our warehouse is open Monday-Friday 8 am to 4 pm and Saturdays 8 am to Noon. Volunteers must wear closed-toed shoes when coming to volunteer their time with us.

Unlike traditional food pantries where you go to them, mobile pantry trucks come to you. Food banks sometimes have an online mobile food pantry schedule.

Baker Knights Of Columbus Donates To Franu Food Pantry For Students
The Knights of Columbus Council 4085 of Baker donated $1,000 to FranUs food pantry on Sept. 21, 2022. The Knights of Columbus Council 4085, of Baker, has donated $1,000 to FranUs food pantry.
FranUs food pantry was started 10 years ago because an SGA student leader saw there was a need among her classmates, a news release said. The pantry serves FranU students in need, providing nonperishable foods, baby formula, school supplies and hygiene products. It has recently expanded to include shelf-stable fruits and vegetables.
Grand Knight Ronald Gremillion said, Knights of Columbus are committed to working with others to end hunger through the Food for Families Program, which has donated millions of dollars and millions of pounds of food toward this cause on a national level. Council 4085, in addition to supporting efforts at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Baker, is happy to assist the FRANU Food Pantry so that students can get a helping hand.

- What is needed more: food or money?
Both are equally needed. The Food Bank strictly relies on donations of funds, time and food. Just $1 can provide up to 3 meals. Donating food to the Food Bank will directly benefit a family we serve throughout our 11-parish service area.
- How do I donate funds to the Food Bank?
You can donate online by visiting our home page and clicking Donate $ button. The Donate Online option will be located in the sidebar menu on the left side of the page. You can also call or send a check to the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank.
- What food items are needed most?
Nonperishable food items like canned vegetables, canned soups, dried beans, canned meats, rice, pasta, peanut butter, flour, corn meal, etc. are all great examples of food that can be donated. Visit our Food Drive page for tips on items we need and theme ideas for your donation.
What Is Empty Bowls
This fundraiser is an international project to fight hunger, personalized by artists and art organizations in communities throughout the world. This unique fundraising effort offers access to hundreds of handcrafted ceramic bowls from local Baton Rouge artists. Empty Bowls is an international project to fight hunger, personalized by artists and art organizations on a community level. Empty Bowls is a unique fund-raising event whereby area artists come together to craft and donate hundreds of pottery bowls to be sold at a special event with a simple meal. The 2022 Empty Bowls event will feature up to 500 bowls from area artists and will be promoted to individuals and families in Baton Rouge.

How Does It Work
- Just park and come inside through the back side door.
- You will be given a number and offered a hot meal while you wait to update your information.
- After information is updated, when your number is called, you will go inside the pantry and, with the help of volunteers, select your own groceries!
- Volunteers will assist you with loading groceries in your vehicle.
Please bring a Photo ID and Proof of Residence .
How Does The Event Work
Guest tickets will include one ceramic bowl of your choosing, soup and bread, and live music. This ticket allows event goers to choose an original, handmade, ceramic bowl to use for soup which is donated and served by area restaurants. Soup bowls are a keepsake meant to be a reminder of all the empty bowls in our community. Additional bowls can be purchased at the event. One hundred percent of all proceeds are devoted to fighting hunger throughout Baton Rouge and our surrounding parishes.

How Do Drive
There are lot of volunteers help at Drive-thru food pantries. While not all drive-thru pantries operate in the same way, here�s how most work:
Staff and volunteers direct visitors to the parking area.
Visitors pull up to the pantry in their car and are usually guided into a clearly marked queue. As people move through the pantry, staff will continue to move the cars forward to get everyone through as quickly and safely as possible.

You are required to fill some information for Pantry’s recording keeping.
Food is loaded into the cars.
Pre-packed bags of food, usually full of shelf-stable items like pasta, canned fruit and peanut butter, as well as fresh produce and meats are loaded by volunteers into the trunk of the car.
