Where Are You Located

All projects except for special events and food distributions take place at our North County warehouse facility in Vista, located at 3030 Enterprise Court, Suite A, Vista, CA 92081. If you will be volunteering for a special event or at a food distribution site, we will provide you with detailed location information once we receive your volunteer confirmation.

FRONT LINE VOLUNTEER

Overview

To ensure the delivery of our essential town service we are looking for volunteers for the key role of Frontline Volunteer. As a Front Line Volunteer, you will be part of a small team of volunteers, guided by a volunteer Team Leader, at a food distribution session. This team of volunteers is responsible for making our clients feel welcome and comfortable as they come to our cabin to exchange a foodbank voucher for a 3 day food parcel. Full training will be provided. Front line volunteers will need to be available at least once a month for one of the follow sessions: Tues 11.30am-2.15pm, Thurs 4.30pm 6.45pm, Fri11.30am-2.15pm

Volunteers will need to be comfortable with email, as rotas are managed by email, be flexible team players and have passion for helping those in need. Work will be carried out at the Foodbank Distribution Cabin, on Tescos carpark on Stratfords Birmingham Road.

Time Commitment:

A minimum of 4 hours a month, may vary according to the rota and your availability, plus attendance at occasional team meetings.

    Most groups and individuals coming to the Foodbank to volunteer are in this category.

    Mobile Pantry ProgramMobile pantry volunteers help distribute food in underserved neighborhoods by assisting with unloading the mobile pantry truck and distributing pre-packaged bags of food. This task is done under the supervision of a staff person or a trained Volunteer Team Leader. Volunteers must be minimum 16 years of age for this activity and must be accompanied by adult guardians in a ratio of 1 adult for every 4 youth under 18.

    Quality AssuranceQuality Assurance volunteers work in the warehouse and must be age 12 or older. Youth ages 12 to 15 must be accompanied by adult guardians in a ratio of 1 adult for every 4 youth. Young adults aged 16 and older should have an adult with them if in a group of 5 or more. Groups and individuals assigned to Quality Assurance will work on one or more of these tasks, depending on current need:

    Special EventsWe often need volunteers to assist with fundraising events such as Mayflower Marathon or large annual food drives. There are also special and community events opportunities for Regular volunteers and Leadership volunteers, in addition to the Basic volunteer assignments.     Can I Bring A Group

    Yes. Volunteering at the North County Food Bank provides team-building opportunities. We welcome corporate teams, office groups, schools, service organizations, alumni groups, associations, families, fraternities and sororities, and faith-based organizations. If you have a group of less than five people, each volunteer must register as an individual. As long as you sign up for the same date and shift time, you will still be able to work together.

    What Will I Do When I Volunteer

    Volunteers primarily work at the Food Banks warehouse, completing a variety of essential tasks, most of which involve inspecting, sorting, and packing food for distribution.

    On average, volunteers inspect and sort 30,000 pounds of food per week that the Food Bank receives from food drives and other sources. This includes checking expiration dates, quality, damage to packaging, and sorting the food into categories for bagging.

    What Should I Wear

    Food Bank recommends casual and comfortable clothing. Close-toed shoes, tennis shoes or boots ARE REQUIRED. No heels, open-toe shoes, or sandals are permitted in the warehouse. The warehouse is not temperature-controlled, so volunteers are encouraged to wear seasonal clothing. In addition, please be mindful of the level of appropriateness of your dress, as we have a wide range age groups that visit our warehouse.     Job Description: Through this program, hunters can donate their legally tagged, field-dressed deer at our on-site processing location Casa Venado. During the statewide hunting season, we are asking for volunteers to help process and prepare the donated venison for distribution to families in need.

    Yes. All volunteer visits MUST be scheduled in advance. Due to health and safety regulations, there are no exceptions to this rule.
