Save On Your Taxes By Donating Crypto

Why Donate Crypto Directly? Taxes!

Theres a reason high net worth individuals tend to donate property instead of cash. Donating cryptocurrency directly to a 501c3 nonprofit is more tax efficient and can save you money.

The IRS classifies cryptocurrency as property for tax purposes which means it is typically the most tax efficient way to support your favorite cause. When donating crypto, you receive a tax deduction for the fair market value of the crypto, and you avoid the capital gains tax you would have incurred if you had sold the crypto and then made a donation. That means youre able to donate more, as well as deduct more on your tax return. The difference? Sometimes more than 30%.

If you provide an email, you will automatically receive a tax receipt after donating.

We ignite the power of community to nourish people facing hunger.

Oregon Food Bank Receives 200 Turkey Donation

From left, Steve Dominguez, the owner of Steves Hometown family of local automobile dealerships, Sheila Hiatt, branch manager Oregon Food Bank, Chris Cook, branch operations lead and Pete Vasquez, Jr., branch operations specialist, each pose with one of the 200 birds donated to the food bank on Friday morning.

ONTARIO The Oregon Food Bank on Nov. 4 became the site of a huge donation of 200 turkeys that required being moved into the warehouse with a forklift.

Steve Dominguez, the owner of Steves Hometown family of local automobile dealerships, was on site to present the donation to Oregon Food Bank Branch Manager Sheila Hiatt.

Our partner agencies love when its the holiday season and the turkeys get donated and were able to provide those out to the families, she explained.

Dominguez said that the donation of 200 turkeys amount to over $2,700, a support to the food bank that he was happy to give.

Hopefully that will help some needy families this Thanksgiving, said Dominguez.

He went to describe how the charity events this year, including the 34th annual Hometown Community Benefit and the Steve’s Hometown Charity Auction and Golf Tournament had raised a great deal of money this year.

This year we raised over $80,000 and its all going to be distributed back into the community during the holiday season, he said.

He said the organization is hoping to service 600 to 700 families this year.

Rescuing Food Reducing Waste

Through our Grocery Rescue Program, Food Bank of the Rockies collaborates with retail establishments across our region to pick up food donations that might otherwise go to waste. Every weekday, we send refrigerated trucks to grocery stores, restaurants, caterers, and other entities to gather this food. Our Hunger Relief Partners also assist us with retail food pick-ups in their local communities. None of this food has been served to patrons or otherwise compromised, and we maintain the strictest quality control measures throughout the donation and distribution process. Learn more about the Grocery Rescue Program here.

Donors in the food service and grocery industries are protected from liability by the state and federal Good Samaritan Acts.

How Does Food Bank Of The Rockies Provide 4 Meals With $1

Every dollar contributed to Food Bank of the Rockies through the 9Cares Colorado Shares virtual food drive helps provide four nourishing meals.

How is this possible?

The nonprofit makes the most of donated dollars by buying food by the truckload and distributing donations.

> Video above: Donate to the 9Cares Colorado Shares virtual food drive

CEO Erin Pulling said the food bank spends almost $1 million a month on food, but this purchased food is only about 15% of the food they distribute. Most of the rest comes from donations from retailers, manufacturers and growers.

The majority of the donated food, Pulling said, comes from retail partners like King Soopers, Safeway, Costco and Sam’s Club. Those businesses donate food that has damaged packaging but is still safe to eat, or is about to expire. The food bank picks up these donations from hundreds of retailers across Colorado and Wyoming.

The food bank also gets donations from manufacturers. When a product’s packaging is updated, or it’s close to the sell-by date for the manufacturer, the food is often donated, Pulling said.

Growers are another source of donated food.

The food bank uses monetary donations to pay for freight and fuel costs, storage and distribution of this donated food.
