Festive Fall Salad With Homemade Blue Cheese Dressing
November 27, 2012 by Faith
Salads are one of the best ways to enjoy seasonal produce. This time of year I like including things like fresh apple, pear, pomegranate arils, dried cranberries, walnuts, cheese, and/or diced turkey. The combinations are just about endless.
Cheese is one of my favorite additions, especially sharp cheddar or blue cheese. If Im adding blue cheese, normally I would crumble it on top of a salad, but last weekend Mike and I made these homemade chicken wings and I made homemade blue cheese dressing to go along with them . We had leftover dressing and Ive been enjoying it on this delicious salad for weekday lunches.
I served this salad with beautiful Udis Whole Grain Seeded Dinner Rolls to round out the meal. The rolls they have great texture , with wonderful whole grain flavor. If youre gluten-sensitive, they are well worth trying . If youd like to try Udis for yourself, scroll down for info on the giveaway.

Saturday, May 14 local postal workers will be collecting far more than just the mail theyll be picking up non-perishable food items and delivering them to food banks, pantries, shelters and churches around the area.
The drive is part of a national campaign to feed America by helping stock the pantries of nonprofits who provide food assistance to those in need.
Every second Saturday in May, members of the National Association of Letter Carriers volunteer their time to pick up food donations left at residents mailboxes to support local food pantries.
This year food donations picked up in New Braunfels by NALC #2805 are going to the Spirit of Sharing Food Bank.
Its just a good feeling, said Eric Lech, the president of National Association of Letter Carriers #2805. We dont work for money to do this in fact were off the clock when we do this. Its just to help benefit our community where we work and most of us live.
Coming To A Doorstep Near You

This years City-Wide Food Drive will take place on Saturday, September 17.
The Fall can be a stressful time of year for many, from worrying about back-to-school expenses to seeing increased lighting and heating costs. At the Food Bank we are still experiencing high demand with many finding they need emergency food support as they continue to recover from the economic downturn, higher cost of living and the risks of continued disruptions to the global supply chain.
Watch for volunteers delivering bags starting September 12.
Have you ever wondered how the City-Wide Food Drive works?
For one week every September over 8,000 volunteers deliver hundreds of thousands of donation bags to the front doors of homes across the city. Generous Calgarians, like you, then fill those bags with healthy, nutritional, and much needed non-perishable food and leave the bag on your driveway. Those same volunteers then pick up your donations and bring them back to the Food Bank to be sorted and distributed to Calgarians.
We are incredibly grateful for the volunteers that come together each year for the City-Wide Food Drive. We could not do it without you!
- Volunteers will deliver food drive bags to neighbourhoods across Calgary between September 12 September 16.

Which Charities Pick Up Donations
A useful way to clear your clutter is to identify what items still have years of life left in them then donate your stuff to a charity. But large furnishings and other yard and household items, big lots of still-good clothing and even cars might need a pick-up — and not every charity offers that service. Before you organize a donation, check to see what charities pick up specific items and how their scheduling works.

Food Donations From Individuals
While we appreciate the support we received from food drives over the years, weve had issues with the varying levels of food quality through third-party food drives. On average, up to 30% of the food we receive ends up being SPOILED, DAMAGED, or UNSAFE to eat.
After much consideration, we have decided to move away from food drives as of January 2022.
For more information on this decision, please visit our page here
If you already hosted your food drive and need to drop off your food, you may drop it off at one of our Community Agency Partners.

A message on my answering machine at home let me know I had a temp job starting the following Monday. Its been a good week, thanks in part to plenty of food in the fridge and cupboard. The San Antonio Food Bank is a 501 non-profit organization providing millions of pounds of food to more than 500 charitable organizations in Southwest Texas serving those in need. In addition to food distribution, the San Antonio Food Bank provides numerous programs that not only solve the immediate problems of hunger, but help individuals and families gain long-term food security.

Retail Store Donation Program
The Retail Store Donation Program is a strategic initiative that enables the Food Bank to increase our emergency food distribution by collecting food from participating grocers that would otherwise be thrown away. Because of strict guidelines, stores often need to discard items even though they are nutritious and completely safe to eat. These goods are then distributed to our agencies in our eight-county wide service area.
The Food Bank works with participating stores to procure these otherwise expensive and difficult to obtain items such as meat, dairy, produce and baked goods enabling low-income residents throughout Southeast Texas to prepare well-balanced nutritious meals for themselves and their families.
The program also exemplifies green business practices by redistributing fresh products that would unnecessarily become waste. Approximately one million pounds of high quality, nutritious food that might otherwise be discarded each year is rescued and delivered to where its needed most.
The Southeast Texas Food Bank follows all necessary food safety guidelines, transports product via our fleet of refrigerated trucks and inspects donated product at pick-up and distribution points.

How Can I Help Three Square The Most
Monetary donations provide the greatest benefit we have buying power that allows us to do more with $1 than you might when you go to the store to purchase canned goods for a food drive. For every $1 donated, Three Square is able to distribute three meals.
Even if you have committed to holding a food drive, please consider the option of adding a fund drive or virtual food drive. Many individuals would rather write a tax-deductible check or make a donation online rather than picking up extra food at the grocery store for the food drive.
