Where Can I Donate Food To The Homeless
Donation Options Food pantries provide food to families experiencing food insecurity, and accept canned and boxed goods with distant expiration dates that dont require refrigeration. Soup kitchens provide meals for the homeless on a daily basis, and frequently need food donations and volunteer servers and cooks.

Handing Out Care Packages
There are a lot of ways to hand out care packages for homeless individuals. The easiest way is to give it to a random homeless person you meet on the street.
If you can convince a couple of friends to make their own homeless care kits, then all the better. You can group them together and go to homeless shelters or local public parks that the homeless frequent. If youre not comfortable approaching a random homeless person, you can also partner with a local homeless charity. Theyre usually swamped with homeless people asking for basic necessities so those care kits would be very much welcome.
If youre personally giving out the care kits, just remember to ask them first if they want help. Some homeless individuals dont readily accept help from anyone, either because of pride or lack of trust in strangers. I mean, if youre on the streets for days, youve probably seen enough to convince you not to accept anything handed out by a complete stranger. So if some of them refuse to accept what youre giving, dont be offended. There are a lot of homeless whod be more than willing to accept those care packages.
That said, handing out care packages is one of the best things you can do for the homeless. Sometimes, it only takes a single act of kindness to make someones day. And at the end of the day, a little bit of kindness is all this world really needs.

Community Donations And Volunteers
The Food Center relies heavily on its partnerships with area restaurants, grocery chains, faith-based organizations, businesses, and citizens of Pinellas County who are responsible for much of the food distributed and used in meal preparation.
Beginning January 1st, individuals may volunteer to serve lunchtime meals or to participate in the evening meal program.

St Lukes Hospital Alone Has Donated Approximately 260 Gallons Of Soup Enough For More Than 4160 Servings
NEW BEDFORD, Mass. Southcoast Health announced today that it is partnering with the United Way of Greater New Bedfords Hunger Commission to provide leftover food to the homeless and less fortunate across eastern Massachusetts.
Southcoast Health is freezing its leftover non-dairy-based soups, which are picked up weekly and brought to local soup kitchens and shelters by the Hunger Commission. All three of Southcoast Healths acute-care hospitals St. Lukes Hospital in New Bedford, Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River, and Tobey Hospital in Wareham are participating in the initiative.
Being able to deliver the soup donated by the three hospitals has given the pantries and their clients something different to look forward to each week, said Michelle N. Hantman, President & CEO of United Way of Greater New Bedford. It has allowed the Hunger Commission to increase the capacity in which we serve residents of the South Coast and will hopefully encourage others to follow Southcoast Healths lead and donate their extra food to those in need.
Since the projects inception in April, St. Lukes Hospital alone has donated approximately 260 gallons of soup, enough for more than 4,160 servings .
Almost 40 percent of food in the United States today goes uneaten, according to Feeding America, a non-profit network of over 200 food banks in the U.S. By one estimate, that equates to more than 20 pounds of food per person every month.

How To Donate Food
To donate food, leave a message on the Rachel’s Table food donation telephone number: 799-7600. A volunteer will return your call.
Please let us know:
- Date and time of your call.
- Your name and phone number.
- A brief descriptions of the amount and type of food for donation.
- Your deadline for pick-up.
Rachel’s Table will pick up and deliver any food, fresh or cooked, that is in good condition, from growers and businesses. We often transport catered food, vegetables, casseroles, pizzas, fruits, etc. as long as they are in good and safe condition.
Food accepted for donation must be properly cooled or frozen. Donor guidelines are available. Note that donors are protected by the Good Samaritan Act
There is no cost to the donor..

Donating food is legal and encouraged by the federal government! As a food donor, you are protected under the The Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Food Donation Act when you donate food to a charitable organization, such as RLC. There has never been a lawsuit related to donating food. In addition, RLC provides a hold harmless clause in all of our food donor agreements.

Limited Liability Protection For Donors
The Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Food Donation Act of 1996 encourages the donation of food and grocery products to nonprofit organizations for distribution to needy individuals. The Act exempts persons and gleaners who make good faith donations of food to nonprofit organizations that feed the hungry from liability for injuries arising from the consumption of the donated food.
Under the Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Food Donation Act, the following food donation standards apply:
Persons and gleaners : Persons and gleaners, including qualified direct donors, shall not be subject to civil or criminal liability arising from the nature, age, packaging, or condition of apparently wholesome food that the person or gleaner donates in good faith to a nonprofit organization for ultimate distribution to needy individuals.
Nonprofit organizations: Nonprofit organizations shall not be subject to civil or criminal liability arising from the nature, age, packaging, or condition of apparently wholesome food that the nonprofit organization received as a donation in good faith from a person or gleaner, including a qualified direct donor, for ultimate distribution to needy individuals.
Donations of apparently wholesome food by qualified direct donors must be made in compliance with applicable state and local health, food safety, and food handling laws .
