Our running costs each year for food, vet bills and heating amount to around £70,000 per year which is a staggering amount to raise and we couldnt do it without your kind support. We take in an alarming number of dogs each year and there are always so many more on the waiting list that just breaks our heart. If you are able to help with any of the following please do get in touch.

Donations of money no matter how small.

Its always helpful for us to receive one off donations and any money donated is always put to good use with the main beneficiaries being the dogs themselves!

What Do Our Dogs Eat

Our dogs are fed human-grade food if its not safe for humans, its definitely not safe for our dogs. We prepare 2 tons in wet weight of fresh food balanced for energy & protein and fortified with fat, minerals & vitamins. Special meals are seperately prepared and hand fed to dogs that are too old to eat or have no teeth etc.

Enabling People And Pets Together To Serve More Clients

For People and Pets Together in South Minneapolis, the demand for pet food has never been higher. Every week the nonprofit pet food bank serves hundreds of limited-income pet owners in the neighborhood. Since the COVID-19 pandemic hit, program director Nick Atwood has seen a rise in need due to layoffs and furloughs. “Our clients would use every last dollar to feed their dogs and cats instead of themselves. The donation from GreaterGood.org’s Rescue Bank helps them take one worry off their list. It frees up their resources so they can get food for themselves.”

Nick says when Animal Humane Society reached out to ask if People and Pets Together could use some of the donated cat food and dog food, it was a strong yes!

“Large donations make such a big difference to us,” says Nick. “We usually get food in small quantities and now we have enough to last several months.”

This supply of pet food gives Nick and other volunteers a small break from pounding the pavement to get more monetary and food donations for their clients. Nick says “I can’t thank all the pet food companies who donated so generously to People and Pets Together. The spirit of giving makes you feel good during these tough times.”

Moral Support: Gathering Your Guts

It can be difficult to contact aid organizations or shelters to ask for help. Many people are embarrassed to ask for assistance and fear being judged. This leads many people to procrastinate often at their pets expense. But dont worry: Its rarely as bad as you think it will be.

First of all, relatively few people decide to work in a non-profit or low-income assistance organization to dole out judgment they go into such work because they love animals and want to help. They are typically warm, compassionate, and empathetic, and theyll be happy to help in any way they can.

Additionally, the employees and staff at most non-profits and aid organizations have been trained to assist people in tough situations. Theyve assisted other owners in similar circumstances before and are taught techniques to help people without making them feel bad about their circumstances.

Its usually best to rip off the Band-Aid quickly. So, go ahead and pick up the phone or visit one of these organizations in person. Chances are theyll quickly put you at ease and, before you know it, theyll be helping you obtain food for your dog.

Some people may feel better sending an email rather than speaking directly with the staff. Thats usually perfectly acceptable, and it may even be an easier method of communication for the staff. Dont feel like you need to explain your life story in the first email you simply need to make the connection and start the ball rolling.

Thank you for your time,

Feed The Need: Donate To The Pet Food Pantry

No pet parent should have to feel the panic and stress of prioritizing pet food purchases against a laundry list of other financial responsibilities. Especially if it means the difference between keeping their beloved pets or surrendering them to the shelter.

But as the spread of COVID-19 continues, so do these struggles for millions of families who are feeling the pressure of unemployment or reduced wages. With curbside pet food pickup event back in May 2020, we reached over 700 families in need and we were able to give away over 15,000 pounds of food.

Still, 30 minutes before distribution was supposed to end, we ran out of food and, unfortunately, had to turn people away. Between the overwhelming turnout at the giveaway and the continued spike in Pet Food Pantry appointments overall, it is clear to us that there is still more need.

We are preparing for our second community pet food giveaway, but we could use your help with food donations so we dont have to turn families in need away for lack of resources.

Other Forms Of Assistance For Low

Food isnt the only thing your dog needs. Hell also need a bed, collar, leash, some toys, and other items. Fortunately, there are a few avenues by which you can often find low-cost or free versions of these supplies.

Your vet may be willing to provide services at reduced fees. Most vets go into the field of animal care because they love animals. This means that theyll often be willing to work with you to ensure you can afford the care your pet needs. They may be willing to reduce the fees associated with various services or allow you to pay for services over time. Also check out our list of organizations that help pay for veterinary bills, as that may be another way you can cut down on the cost of your dogs medical care.

Local pet stores especially those of the mom-and-pop variety may be willing to give discounts to people having trouble affording their pets needs. They may also be able to give you a heads up regarding upcoming sales, clearance events, or similar promotions.

Social media networks often give you the chance to speak with other dog owners and find unique opportunities. Where To Donate Opened Dog Food

We have about half of a bag of dog food that our guy somehow grew an intolerance to. Are there any shelters that will accept it? Im also looking to offload the dog food bin.

For even more excitement, put the bag on the sidewalk. Then post on Nextdoor that you did so.

I would hope no organization would accept that from someone they dont know, for animals sake. Just trash it or give to a homeless guy or girl with a dog

No way. Give it to a homeless guy/gal with dogs. Lots of encampments around.

I work at a shelter in the city. We cant use opened food and will compost it if someone does donate. I would try to give it to a friend or neighbor.
