Brother Jeff Fard, along with Sony Music Publishing Chairman and CEO Big Jon Platt, will be hosting the No One Should Be Hungry, Period campaign on Thanksgiving Day.
The event started last year on Christmas Day and about 500 meals were packaged and readied for pick-up or delivery. This year, the goal is to provide more than 1,000 free meals.

While we understand the desire to contact a friend or loved one who may be receiving services or participating in a program at the Mission, it is our policy to not disclose any information about our guests or program participants. We can neither confirm nor deny that an individual has been or is a guest or program participant at one of our facilities.
What Do We Do With 15000 Frozen Turkeys
In addition to making traditional Thanksgiving meals for our guests and participants across Denver Rescue Mission locations, we distribute 3,000 Thanksgiving Banquets-in-a Box to families and individuals in need.
We partner with 140 different churches, schools and non-profit organizations to bring Thanksgiving into the homes of people who need it most.

How Your Donations Are Used
We primarily serve families and individuals that are transitioning into smaller apartments. In order to serve them well, we prioritize items that are space-efficient and desirable for their living spaces. For their sake, we do not accept anything with rips, stains, discoloration, pet-hair, structural damage, or in need of repair. We prioritize items such as:
- Small Kitchen tables and chairs
- Small kitchen appliances and dishware
- Like-new Queen, Double, and Twin mattresses
Your donations help provide meals for people in need, clothing for men and families in our long-term programs, household items for people struggling to make ends meet, vehicles for program graduates, and more.
All this adds up to provide amazing life change for people in need.
Get Involved With Local Shelters And Organizations
There are several organizations across the state dedicated to helping people experiencing homelessness get the resources and help they need. Looking up local shelters and organizations in your area is a great way to see how you can offer support.
DRMis committed to helping those experiencing homelessness in Denver through emergency services, rehabilitation, transitional programs and community outreach. Everyone is different and there is no one perfect formula,Gagner said.Often it is one person at a time that we can make an impact with through our services at DRM.
Gagner recommends requesting a tour of a homeless shelter near you. She believes by experiencing firsthand what the shelter is like, one can learn more about what specific needs the community has and how to help. The Office of Homeless Initiative is a branch of the Department of Local Affairs and provides myriad information on resources as well as what the state of Colorado is implementing to help fight homelessness.

Broncos Partner With Denver Rescue Mission To Collect And Distribute Food For Thanksgiving
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. â The Denver Broncos have partnered with Denver Rescue Mission to collect and distribute food this Thanksgiving season.
From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, UCHealth Training Center’s Broncos Team Store parking lot will serve as a one-day collection site for Denver Rescue Mission’s 2022 Turkey Drive.
Over the past four years, more than 2,500 frozen turkeys have been donated through this one-day collection site. To jump-start the 2022 Turkey Drive, 15 Broncos players have committed to donate 1,025 turkeys to the drive. Fans are encouraged to donate frozen 12-pound turkeys, boxed mashed potatoes, boxed stuffing, canned fruits, vegetables, yams, pumpkin, gravy and cranberry sauce.
In addition to collecting meals, the Broncos will assist Denver Rescue Mission with their annual Thanksgiving Banquet in a Box meal distribution at Empower Field at Mile High in Lot B on Tuesday, Nov. 22, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
More than 3,000 meals will be distributed in time for Thanksgiving to pre-registered families and each boxed meal will include a turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing and additional Thanksgiving items.
Each year, Denver Rescue Mission collects 15,000 frozen turkeys with the goal of putting a turkey on every table for Thanksgiving. The organization partners with 100 agencies, including churches, schools and non-profits, to bring Thanksgiving into the homes of people in need.

Serve Meals At A Shelter And Volunteer At A Food Bank
According to the National Coalition for the Homeless, 46 million Americans visit food-sharing programs annually. That is 46 million Americans who have a story to tell and a way to learn those stories is to volunteer at one. One of the best ways to get involved is to serve a meal at one of our locations, Gagner said. When people have that hands-on experience, they are able to come away from that learning something, or with a story or often breaking down stereotypes of people experiencing homelessness. By actually interacting with the homeless, you gain a better understanding of what it means to experience homelessness as well as re-evaluate the harmful stereotypes associated with it. Volunteering at a local food bank is a way to do some good behind the scenes.

Denver Rescue Mission is not equipped to provide emergency overnight shelter to women or children, but other partner organizations in Denver are available. Thanksgiving is less than a week away and that means families are gearing up for tasty dinner spreads. But with inflation driving up food prices and the usual costs of living limiting budgets, some families are in need.
Weve put together a list of some organizations that are handing out free Thanksgiving dinner boxes. These organizations are also accepting monetary donations and non-perishable food.

Ministry Outreach Center Temporarily Closing
The Ministry Outreach Center will be temporarily closed from June 22 through the July 4th holiday for our annual inventory. Public services will resume on July 5, 2022.
Donation drop-offs can still be accepted during this time, but services such as our food pantry, clothing and furniture distribution and commodity assistance partner services will be unavailable during this time.

The cost of food is soaring and some grocery chains like Walmart are helping people set the table without gobbling up their Thanksgiving budgets. As prices rise, so does the need for supply at Denver Metro Area food banks. The Denver Rescue Mission is calling on the community to help collect 15,000 turkeys for those experiencing hunger.
The Denver Rescue Mission broke a record last year, serving 1 million meals for the first time in history.
What Is The Difference Between A Food Bank And A Food Pantry
Independent community food pantries are self-governing and usually distribute food to their clients on a once-a-month basis. A food bank is the storehouse for millions of pounds of food and other products that go out to the community. A food pantry functions as the arms that reach out to that community directly.

What It’s Like To Volunteer At A Food Bank
Every volunteer experience is a little different. Here are some things you might do as a volunteer:
- Sort and pack food: You can keep the shelves stocked by assembling food boxes for distribution.
- Assist at mobile pantries, drive-thru pantries, and no-contact distributions: Help your neighbors feed their families.
- Deliver meals: With many communities sheltering in place, you can help ensure our most vulnerable neighbors have the food they need while staying safe.
- Glean and garden: Volunteers collect food left in the fields after harvest or help tend the food bank or food pantry’s community garden.
- Volunteer from home: Some food banks have moved their volunteer shifts online and are asking volunteers to help fundraise or spread awareness.
Your safety is a top priority. The Feeding America network follows all Center for Disease Control and local guidelines for sanitation, hygiene, and social distancing to ensure staff and volunteers are safe. The Kitchen is continuing its Thanksgiving tradition of providing pies for families and individuals. Folks must attend the No-Cost Grocery Program on the Nov. 23 to receive a pie.
You can also donate pies on Saturday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and Monday and Tuesday from 9 a.m. through 3 p.m.

Volunteers of America Colorado will be handing out hundreds of dinner baskets filled with nonperishable food, bread from the organizations City Harvest and a $50 Safeway gift card.
About 300 baskets will be given out Tuesday in a drive-thru fashion and on a first-come, first-served basis.
VOAC will also give out an additional 400 baskets to individuals and families receiving services through VOAC in Metro Denver. About 400 gift cards will also be given to programs outside the metro area.
In a press release, the organization said it originally planned for a traditional Thanksgiving meal but decided to go with gift cards to allow participants to choose what theyd like for the holiday. Food Bank of the Rockies is providing the nonperishable items.
Educate Others And Use Compassion
Educating the public is critical for the advancement of the mission of helping others. People tend to have stereotypes in their heads about people in need, Gagner said. You see someone panhandling and think if only they could get a job, or this or that. Its not that easy, sometimes a job is what they need, but everyone is different. By exposing the public to the trials and tribulations that homeless people face, compassion can be found for their plight and an understanding of the socioeconomic hurdles they endure.
