Food Bank Of South Jersey
The Food Bank of South Jersey provides life-saving food to nearly 200,000 children, seniors, and families in need through its network of 250 food pantries.
The Food Bank of South Jersey exists to provide an immediate solution to the urgent problem of hunger by providing food to people in need, teaching them to eat nutritiously, and helping them to find sustainable ways to improve their lives.
Our impact is realized and achieved primarily through procuring high quality, surplus food and providing it to seniors, children, the working poor, and other individuals and families in need of food assistance through the 250 member agencies which are part of our emergency feeding network. The members of this network consist of a diverse mix of emergency feeding programs, such as food pantries and soup kitchens, congregate feeding programs, senior and after-school feeding services, short and long-term shelter services, and drug and alcohol substance centers. It is through these members that the FBSJ distributes 10 million pounds of food to almost 200,000 food insecure individuals living in Camden, Salem, Gloucester and Burlington Counties.
Sustenance is a pressing need, but the need for finding paths to self-sufficiency is also essential. The Food Bank of South Jersey addresses both ends of that continuum with food to alleviate hunger and educational and job skills programming to improve lives.
How Cfbnj Helps Hungry Neighbors
We package food orders for local soup kitchens and food pantries we purchase and collect food for distribution help people in need through SNAP application assistance reach communities with limited resources with mobile pantries and encourage others to get involved. Last year, we distributed food for over 86 million meals , 34% of which was fresh produce. We address hunger as a health issue by providing more fruits and vegetables, nutrition education, and medical screenings to inspire positive lifestyles. Community members from all walks of life engage in our mission through volunteer opportunities resulting in over 27,000 volunteer visits last year-equivalent to the work of about 31 full-time employees.
CFBNJs mission is to fight hunger and poverty in New Jersey by assisting those in need and seeking long-term solutions. We will engage, educate and empower all sectors of society in the battle. Longtime South Jersey Food Pantry Temporarily Shuts Down It Ran Out Of Food
A community helper in Pitman, N.J., is scrambling to help again.
The Angels Community Outreach, a Pitman-based nonprofit that has helped tens of thousands of South Jersey residents with food, clothing, and other assistance over the last 13 years, shut down its food pantry this week.
It ran out of food on Tuesday.
PLEASE HELP- SADLY this is the FIRST TIME I have EVER had to do this, director Elissa Darrow posted on the groups Facebook page. Unfortunately we have to CLOSE our FOOD PANTRY until we can fill our shelves.
The group has put out an appeal for donations of food, other provisions, and cash to help replenish its pantry. People have been stepping up, and Darrow said she and her volunteers hope they may be back in operation as soon as next Tuesday.
The pantrys difficulties, however, are part of a larger picture of tough times: higher food costs, inflation, and struggling households.
With the way prices are rising, were just not getting as many donations because the people who used to be able to donate to us cant because the little extra money they had to donate now theyre spending on their own food, Darrow said.
Weve also seen an increase of people asking for help, she added. And its just not the person whos not working.
Even families with two wage-earners are finding it harder to cover their rent, car payment, and keep everyone fed, she said.
Were absolutely distributing food at pandemic levels at this point, Rife said.

The Southern Branch of the Community FoodBank of New Jersey is located in Egg Harbor Township and serves clients in Atlantic, Cape May, and Cumberland counties. Right off the Garden State Parkway, the Southern Branch offers on-location food pantry hours as well as a mobile pantry to help get food to hungry men, women, and children in more remote areas of South Jersey. New Jersey Food Banks Join Together For A Day Of Advocacy In Trenton For Hunger Action Month
The FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties, Community FoodBank of New Jersey and FoodBank of South Jersey came together to meet with legislators and discuss the issue of hunger in New Jersey.
In New Jersey, over 1.1. million people are food insecure, meaning they are without reliable access to enough nutritious food they can afford to purchase. One in eight individuals struggle with hunger, and one in three is a child.
According to the 2016 Feeding America Map the Meal Gap study, a total of 185,701,100 meals are needed to fill the hunger gap, and the money needed to meet the food needs in NJ is $552,797,00.
The Executive Directors of each food bank met with their district legislators to discuss the measures that will help increase food security in NJ including:
- Continue to improve business models to expedite Medicaid and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program applications
- Ensure expanded funding for the State Food Purchase Program
- Support measures that expand school breakfast
Our food banks came together during Hunger Action Month to begin to build a comprehensive policy agenda to compliment the work we are doing. Together, greater things will be accomplished for our neighbors in need, said Carlos Rodriguez, Executive Director of The FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties.

Cfbnj Food Pantry Hours
To get food from our mobile and on-site pantries run by our Egg Harbor Township location, clients must show proof of residence. Two forms are required: a state issued ID such as a drivers license, and a piece of mail with their name and address on it. A lease that lists all occupants is also accepted. To get food for school-aged children under 18, their school record with their name and address on it is accepted, and for children younger than school age, we will accept a birth certificate. In the event that parents are divorced, children can only be listed under one parent in our records.

Feed More is our core program. We solicited more than 10 million pounds of surplus last year from local, regional and national food sources. The food is then transported to our 65,000 square foot warehouse in Pennsauken.
