The Central Texas Food Bank is asking for the community to come out and volunteer for their upcoming mass food distribution events.

The food distributions are being held in response to elevated demand for services from those facing increased food security, even as the COVID-19 pandemic eases. Anyone interested in volunteering can visit the Food Banks website, and sign up by clicking on Volunteer.

The food distributions are drive-thru events but can accommodate anyone without a vehicle as well. Attendees will receive various food items, depending on the available supply .

Drivers are asked to make space in the trunk or hatch area of their vehicles, and anyone without a vehicle can go through the designated walk-up area with containers in which they can carry the food.

Central Texans that are not able to make it to these events can also gain access to food through the food banks network of partner pantries and various other mobile food pantry distributions. The organization is in need of monetary donations as well due to high demand, donors can make a contribution on the website.

The Central Texas Food Bank has a powerful new tool in its arsenal to help end hunger. Named FACT, for Food Access Convening Tool, it identifies areas where our neighbors face food insecurity and uses real-time data to map gaps in services within the organizations 21-county service area. It also allows the Food Bank to better embed equity in its planning processes by providing key demographic data and shows the impact of strategies beyond food distributionsuch as SNAP assistance and workforce developmentthat reduce food access gaps, giving an even more accurate picture of need and how to meet it.

Central Texas Food Bank Sets December Food Distribution Events

AUSTIN, TX The Central Texas Food Bank on Monday announced food distribution events in December for those facing food insecurity amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Food bank officials also seeks volunteers to assist with the scheduled events along with sorting in the warehouse. Anyone interested in volunteering to support the Food Bank at this critical time should visit the Food Banks website, centraltexasfoodbank.org, and click on Volunteer to sign up.

Central Texas Food Bank Announces July Schedule For Drive

AUSTIN, Texasâ On four days in July, the Central Texas Food Bank will distribute free food in the Austin area to help those who are facing increased food insecurity during the COVID-19 pandemic.

At these special drive-through food distributions, attendees will receive :

  • One box of assorted produce
  • 1-2 gallons of milk
  • One protein box weighing between 8 20 pounds containing chicken or pork products
  • And/or an emergency box of shelf-stable items, as available

Due to COVID-19, pickup will only be available to those with cars and no walk-ups will be allowed. Anyone coming to pick up food is asked to make appropriate space in their trunk before arriving.

The Central Texas Food Bank says that since the start of the pandemic, the demand for food has been exceptionally high

âWe also ask that you attend this event only if you are facing true food insecurity since our resources are stretched to the limit,â says the food bank.

Temple Cte Department Reaches New Heights

The Temple High School Career & Technical Education Department is celebrating its continued impact on TISD students after posting some impressive results during the 2021-2022 school year.

The Temple High School CTE department released those numbers as part of the programs year-end celebration.

A total of 186 students combined to earn 243 industry based certifications during the 2021-2022 academic year. Those certifications covered 15 different disciplines.

The CTE department also qualified 40 students for state competitions and completed 244 service-based learning projects and events.

Both of those totals are more than double the number from the 2020-2021 school year. The increased number of students earning certifications is a particular point of pride for the department because of the direct impact it has on their ability to get hired.

When students earn industry recognized certifications, this shows employers they are ready to meet the technical challenges the workplace presents, said Denise Ayres, director of CTE for Temple schools.

It shows students have the knowledge and skill necessary to be value add to a team and it shows these students will need less on the job training than someone without this knowledge and skill, thus, they are ready to jump right into the work at hand, she said.

Food insecurity increasing in Travis County food bank needs donations, volunteers | KVUE

WACO/TEMPLE, Texas The Central Texas Food Bank is in need of volunteers to assist with some upcoming events.

The Food Bank will distribute free food to help those facing increased food insecurity during the COVID-19 pandemic. These food distributions are primarily designed as drive-thru events. However, no one in need of food will be turned away. Attendees will receive an assortment of food items including protein, produce and dairy products totaling between 60 and 66 pounds depending on available supplies.

    How The Distribution Works

    Killeen ISD to offer free meals to students

    When cars roll up, volunteers will place pre-packaged boxes into the trunks of families cars. Families will get 28 pounds of shelf-stable food such as peanut butter, rice, canned tuna and canned fruit.

    Central Texans can also access food through the food banks network of partner pantries and mobile food pantry distributions throughout the area.
