To make use of the Montgomery Township Food Pantry, an appointment is needed for an initial visit with the Food Pantry Manager. You must bring proof that you live in Montgomery and documentation of your income and expenses. While there is no income eligibility, there is an income verification process.
When you come in for the appointment, the manager will help you complete some forms, make copies of your documentation, and will explain how to use the pantry. The pantry operates by appointment only to protect individuals privacy.

Free or low cost food can be obtained from a variety of locations in New Jersey. families can turn to charities or the government, including free food banks and pantries. Many individuals and families are facing hardships, and need a little assistance to help them make it through a difficult period.
Get information below on some of the food banks in New Jersey that may be near you. The locations listed are the major centers, but they also have partnerships with other local non-profits, charities, and distribution centers across the state. People who need help can call one of the sites below to learn about locations nearer to them if need be. In addition to receiving free or low food, groceries, and other items from these locations, many will provide other forms of non-financial aid as well, such as clothing and referrals to assistance programs. It sounds like it could be March 2020, when the coronavirus pandemic first gripped the nation and caused a sudden spike in unemployment. But its happening right now.
This is now becoming even the greater event than we saw during the pandemic, Fred Wasiak, the president of the Food Bank of South Jersey, said.
Leaders at food banks and pantries across New Jersey told NJ Advance Media that what theyve been seeing this summer has surpassed the need they saw during the first pandemic spring, with food insecurity levels matching a pandemic-high, U.S. Census data shows.
A combination of surging inflation, the end of federal pandemic aid programs and fewer donations are behind the strain, Adele LaTourette, the senior policy director at the Community Food Bank of New Jersey, said.

Community Foodbank Of New Jersey Awarded $11m Grant To Help Residents In Need
A $1.1 million federal grant awarded to the Community FoodBank of New Jersey this week will help it assist more of the states food-insecure residents.
Led by the New Jersey Department of Agriculture, the grant program will rely on the Hillsdale-based food bank to bolster emergency food assistance programs throughout the state.
Food insecurity exists in just about every community in the state, said Carlos Rodriguez, the president and CEO of the Community FoodBank of New Jersey. However, the food and services needed to fight the socioeconomic issues that lead to hunger in America are sometimes missing their mark.
Resources havent landed in proportion to need, he said. It may perhaps be because of capacity issues, or the shift of the need because of the pandemic, or any number of reasons.
The U.S. Department of Agricultures Food and Nutrition Service grant was provided through the American Rescue Plan Act as part of the departments Build Back Better Initiative. Nationwide, more than $39 million was distributed to 38 agencies through this grant program.
The grant, Rodriguez said, will help the bank balance food distribution and auxiliary services to serve communities historically underserved by the federal Emergency Food Assistance Program. The goal, he said, is to increase household and soup kitchen distribution through outreach and infrastructure initiatives.
Most Deprived Persons Programme
While many European food banks have long been run by civil society with no government assistance, an EU funded project, the Most deprived persons programme , had specialised in supplying food to marginalised people who are not covered by the benefit system, who were in some cases reluctant to approach the more formal food banks. The programme involved the EU buying surplus agricultural products, which were then distributed to the poor largely by Catholic churches. The MDP was wound down in late-2013, and was replaced by the Fund for European Aid to Most Deprived , which is set to run until at least 2020. The FEAD programme has a wider scope than the MDP, helping deprived people not just with food aid, but with social inclusion projects and housing. The actual methods employed by FEAD tend to vary from country to country, but in several EU states, such as Poland, its activities include helping to fund local food bank networks.

Central Texas Food Bank Says Thanksgiving Food Needs Up Despite Ongoing Supply Chain Issues
AUSTIN As Thanksgiving nears, the Central Texas Food Bank is seeing an increased need for support going into the holiday season despite ongoing food supply chain issues, they said.
The food banks current demands rival pandemic-level needs for support, said Sari Vatske, the president and CEO of the Central Texas Food Bank. The organization usually distributes 12,000-14,000 turkeys, but they expect to give out over 16,000 turkeys this year.
Weve already seen increased numbers because of inflation, so the holiday time iscompounding the issue, Vatske said.
At the same time, the Central Texas Food Bank said about 30% of their shipments were canceled by the United States Department of Agriculture due to nationwide supply chain challenges.
To combat the shortfall, the food bank is purchasing additional food, finding unique ways to work with food donors and relying more on community support.
The food bank has lower-than-usual levels of food including canned goods, but Vatske said they will still supply turkeys and other foods to families in need this holiday season.
The Central Texas Food Bank serves over 20 counties including Travis, Williamson, Hays, Burnet Bell, Bastrop, Blanco, Milam, Gillespie, Caldwell and Lampasas counties.

Central Texas Food Bank to provide Thanksgiving meals amid supply chain issues, rising costs
FOX 7 was told the food bank had trouble securing turkeys this year because of a shortage. Additionally, inflation has been affecting grocery affordability for the community.
AUSTIN, Texas – From its headquarters in South Austin, the Central Texas Food Bank distributes meals across 21 counties statewide.
A lot goes on behind the scenes in order to get food to families.
“Im inspecting all the items making sure that theyre not expired, and theyre still in good shape,” said volunteer Jessica Kizer on Monday. “I just like to help and give back where I can.”
She and her sons were just some volunteers helping fill a need that grows during the holiday season.
“We work really, really hard in the lead up to Thanksgiving to make sure that we have tons of turkey and all the traditional sides that folks expect,” said Mark Jackson, chief development officer. “Then we work with a network of 250 organizations to make sure that they have access to those items and are able to get those out to their families before the big holiday.”
This comes as supply chain issues have lingered post-pandemic. FOX 7 was told the food bank had trouble securing turkeys this year because of a shortage.
Additionally, inflation has been affecting grocery affordability for the community.
Jackson said theyre still seeing about 20% more clients at CTFB distributions than they were before the pandemic.

Community Food Bank Of Central Alabama Appoints New Ceo

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.
The Community Food Bank of Central Alabama has appointed a new CEO.
Nicole Williams took the post, effective Nov. 18. She had been appointed interim in late February 2022.
In 2020, Williams was the agency’s first Director of Development.
She had previous nonprofit experience at the Alabama Symphony Orchestra, Sight Savers America, Kid One Transport, and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
In a statement, Williams said in part, 1 in 5 people experience food insecurity in central Alabama and this need has been amplified in recent years due to the pandemic, supply chain issues and inflation. Together as a community, we can support our neighbors in need. Along with our agency partners, donors, board and staff we can bring hope and nourishment to those who experience hunger. I look forward to continuing the great work of the Food Bank as we work toward our mission to feed people in need today and foster collaborative solutions to end hunger tomorrow.
Board president Mary Alice Kline said Williams “is uniquely qualified to lead our organization at this point in our growth trajectory, and we are looking forward to the many contributions that she will make toward closing the meal gap for our neighbors experiencing food insecurity.
The Community Food Bank of Central Alabama supplied more than 16.2 million meals a year to more than 230 food pantries, shelters, and children’s programs.
Join The Cfbnj Care Crew
Community FoodBank of New Jersey in Hillside is launching a Volunteer Warehouse Ambassador program, known as the Care Crew. The Care Crew will be trained volunteers who will support CFBNJ staff to provide guidance, information, and gratitude to volunteer groups in the warehouse.
The Care Crew will assist in:
- Work with staff to greet and sign-in groups
- Provide an overview, if staff is unavailable
- Circulate among the group during the volunteer activity to answer questions about the project or the FoodBank
- Learn how to work various projects Food Sorting, Box building, and Pasta
- Have strong knowledge of FoodBank mission, priorities, and programs
- Thank volunteer groups at the end of the shift
Care Crew members will be asked to make a one-year commitment which will include an application, interview, orientation session, and commit to two volunteer shifts in Hillside per month. Candidates should have already completed two volunteer shifts at the Hillside warehouse before theyapply to join the Care Crew.
