Spa City Food Bank Distributing 50 Tons A Month
HOT SPRINGS — The Project HOPE Food Bank may be one of the “best-kept secrets” in Garland County, but it helps provide thousands of meals for those less fortunate in the Hot Springs area.
When the food bank opened in 2009, it distributed approximately 15,000 pounds of food a month, and it now provides an average of 100,000 pounds of food each month.
“We’re up to close to 100,000 pounds a month — some months way over that — but on average about 100,000 pounds, and that’s on the volunteer workforce and four hours a day, four days a week,” Becky Choate, the food bank’s assistant director, said. “So, that’s a lot going on. We’re always a real busy place, but we always have a load of fun.”
The covid-19 pandemic brought many challenges for the food bank. Not only was there an increase in the amount of food requested, but food prices skyrocketed. According to an email from Choate, prices for many “kitchen staples” have seen an increase of 187% since 2020.
Some of the items listed include a 12-count case of peanut butter , a 12-count case of oatmeal , a 24-count case of canned chicken , and a 24-count case of macaroni and cheese .
“We buy food by the truckload, and we take our grants and our donations, and we subsidize the price of it,” Choate said. “So we offer it to agencies for less than what we pay for it, but we can get a much better price on products buying it by the full truckload as opposed to running out to Walmart and getting a jar or a can.”

The Trojan Food Pantry is offering pick-up appointments only. All orders and appointments must be scheduled in advance andmust be picked up at the scheduled time. If your order is not picked up at the scheduled time, we will hold your order for 3 days before unpacking it and requiring another order to be placed.
NOTE: The Trojan Food Pantry services are only available to current students, faculty and staff of UA Little Rock. If you are not affiliated with the university, please to find other resources.

- Employee Roster: Restaurant Owner or Hospitality Business will need to complete. We only need the employees name and mobile phone number for any staff that has been furloughed or laid off. Employees will receive $10/hour. Please identify Shift Leaders. *Shift Leaders are existing Managers or Shift Leads at your business. Shift Leaders will receive $13/hour.

Free Food Pantries In Pulaski County Arkansas
Get information about Little Rock and Pulaski County Arkansas food banks, soup kitchens and free emergency food pantries. Whether it is to deal with an emergency or offer long term support, there may be resources available. Free food, meals, Thanksgiving or Christmas baskets and other aid can be obtained at these locations, as well as from your local church or other distribution centers across Pulaski County. The locations may be the best place to turn to for surplus government food, perishable items, and even for help in both learning about and applying for government programs like food stamps or WIC. Individuals and families who stop by a food pantry in Little Rock or Pulaski County can meet with a case manager, and together you can explore all the assistance programs, services, and options that may be available to you.
Some of those other programs may be Christmas or Thanksgiving meal, home delivery to seniors, or additional weekend snacks to students. Many of the food pantries in Pulaski County also have free soup kitchens on site for hot meals, including lunches or dinner. These of course would be in addition to any food or groceries from a pantry that can be offered to help alleviate the immediate crisis situation.

Trauma Rehabilitation Resources Program
The Arkansas Foodbank was created on January 17, 1984 as a 501 nonprofit organization to serve several central south Arkansas counties by providing an affordable and credible food source for local agencies serving hungry people in the state. By 1986 the Arkansas Foodbank had its first year of distributing 1 million pounds of food. In the 1989 the Foodbank became a member of the Feeding America national network and gained more assistance for acquiring and distributing food. Since that time the organization has grown to include 450 local partner agencies and delivering over 24 million pounds of food in AFs 33-county service area. According to the 2014 Hunger in America study the Foodbank serves 280,000 people.

Northwest Arkansas Food Bank was established in 1988 by a group of concerned citizens who saw the need for hunger assistance in Benton, Washington, Madison and Carroll counties. In 2017 the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank distributed more than 12.5 million pounds of food. Together with more than 160 partner agencies, the food bank is able to reach out to those in need providing nutritious food to children, the working poor and senior citizens. The Northwest Arkansas Food Bank is an affiliate of Feeding America and a founding member of the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance.

In June of 1986, the Crawford-Sebastian Community Development Council in Fort Smith formed the River Valley Regional Food Bank to address hunger in the region. Today, the food bank, a partner with Feeding America, distributes more than 9.5 million pounds of food annually to people facing hunger in eight West Central Arkansas counties. Partnering with the food bank are 190 nonprofit agencies including food pantries, soup kitchens, senior citizen centers, youth programs and emergency shelters. One in six people, and one in four children, suffer from food insecurity in the River Valley region.
Get Shift Done Central Arkansas
In an effort to provide relief between out of work, or decreased shift hospitality workers, and the lack of volunteers for the Arkansas Foodbank, Get Shift Done Central Arkansas is trying to help bridge the gap by filling Arkansas Foodbank positions with restaurant industry workers for $10/Hour shifts using the SHIFTSMART app to provide flexible hours. The foodbank has shifts twice a day 5 days a week and Saturdays. So, there is plenty of work to be done to help us feed families, children and seniors in our state.

With so many fundraising galas and fancy nonprofit dinners in town, it can be difficult to find events that are casual and family-friendly. Thats where the Arkansas Foodbank comes in.
The second annual Harvest Night is Sept. 16 from 5-8 p.m. at the Arkansas Foodbank warehouse. Attendees will enjoy live music, barbeque and catfish from Corky’s Ribs & BBQ Little Rock, Arkansas craft beer and wine and play outdoor games.
Kids can explore a petting zoo, get their faces painted, play around in bounce houses and take home free balloon animals.
Tickets for adults are $40 and kids under 12 are free. This years event chairs are Robert and Haley Klein.
Harvest Night is an opportunity for the community to see firsthand the facility that sources food to more than 450 food pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters and childrens feeding programs in 33 counties in central and southern Arkansas.
